Why did the Soviet gunners attach the " mosinka" to the gun

A curious photograph is circulating on the net, in which a Red Army artilleryman ties a Mosin rifle to the barrel of a ZIS-3 divisional gun. Right behind the Red Army soldier sits a lot of other fighters and there is another cannon with a rifle already attached to the barrel. The question arises: why was this done, did the Soviet “goal” cunning to the point of fiction decide to follow the path of the German creators of the variegated wunderwaffe?

Before returning to the Red Army and Mosin rifles, let's talk about today. For a second, let's digress from the gunners and turn our attention to motorized riflemen, and specifically to grenade launchers. What for? Then, that the process of their preparation in our time is directly related to the discussed photography during the war. When conscripts-grenade launchers are being trained, they are not immediately given live grenades. First you need to teach a soldier to equip a grenade launcher and shoot without a live grenade.

How can I do that? Very easy. Especially for this, there is a PUS-7 device - “Firing practice device”, which externally resembles a grenade, but in reality is a firearm into which a cartridge is loaded caliber 7.62 mm. Loaded with a PUS-7 cartridge, it is loaded into a grenade launcher, after which the launch of the grenade launcher allows you to fire from the training device, releasing the cartridge at the target. This is much safer and cheaper than immediately firing live grenades. Only when the soldiers confidently shoot from PUSs are they transferred to study with real grenade launchers.

As you might have already guessed: a rifle tied to the barrel of an artillery gun is an impromptu device for target practice. The rifle was reduced to a cannon sight, and its trigger was connected by a wire to the trigger of the gun. Thus, the soldiers got the opportunity to gain basic skills without actually shooting.

During the war years, this was especially valuable, since shells were primarily supplied for the front. And there is not so much difference, in terms of the technique of the actions performed, between firing a real projectile and a training one. They came up with this method of training artillerymen not in the Soviet Union. It has been used since the 19th century and practiced in all countries. Including in the Russian Imperial Navy, where shots for naval guns were even more expensive than shots for the divisional F-22.

In continuation of the topic, read about what were the disadvantages of the Soviet tank IS-2, and in what he was inferior to German tanks.
