Pumpkin Rossiyanka is characterized by high yield, early ripening, large-fruited, excellent taste. Growing does not require much effort. The pumpkin is transportable and can be stored in the cellar until spring.
Among the minuses, it is worth noting the pronounced fear of frost and sensitivity to powdery mildew.
How to plant and grow pumpkin Rossiyanka
There are no special land requirements. But the predecessors should not be squash, zucchini, watermelons and melons, as well as cucumbers. Successfully pumpkin develops on loamy and sandy soil. It is better to plant a crop where legumes, root crops, onions, cabbage and potatoes used to be.
The optimum temperature at which the pumpkin grows well is the range from +22 to +28 degrees. The plant also needs bright light. For planting, you need to choose a sunny area, protected from drafts.
Seed and soil preparation
The territory needs to be fertilized by introducing:
- sodium chloride 15 g;
- superphosphate 30 g;
- humus 5 kg.
Pumpkin seeds should be put in water at about +40 degrees for three hours. They swell, and they are transferred to a cotton cloth or gauze. The fabric should be damp and at room temperature. When the seeds germinate, they must be kept on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for five days.
How to plant pumpkin seeds
You can pre-grow seedlings, and then transplant them into an open area. After making seeds in the wells, the plants are watered.
Pumpkin Rossiyanka does not tolerate frost well. To be safe, germinated seeds should not be immediately planted in an open area. It is better to prepare seedlings. Peat pots or tablets should be used. Their diameter is about 0.1 m. They make it possible to plant seedlings in the ground without disturbing the root system.
In the absence of a purchased soil mixture, the soil must be prepared independently. Humus (peat or soddy soil) and river sand are mixed in equal quantities.
Containers should be covered with glass or polyethylene and kept at +25 degrees until sprouts appear. If there are two of them, the best one is chosen, the second one needs to be pinched. Further, the air temperature must be lowered to +20 degrees. After 25 days, the seedlings are ready for planting in the open.
Care
Pumpkins need to be watered regularly and abundantly. Warm settled water is used. Watering at least 1 time per week.
Each pumpkin should take up to 4 liters of water. When gaining mass, watering should be frequent and done 1 time in 5 days.
After the appearance of the sixth leaf, the pumpkin needs to be fed with humus or mineral fertilizers. Suitable:
- superphosphate,
- potassium salt,
- ammonium nitrate.
With intensive growth, the culture needs to be fed again. Further, they switch to top dressing once every 15 days. Organics need to be alternated with mineral fertilizers. When the pumpkin ripens, you can fertilize the plant with wood ash.
Soil loosening
Loosening is carried out every decade. You can mulch loosened soil with humus. It is recommended to plant seedlings or seeds in cuts that are made in agrofabric or agrofibre. The use of such material will protect plants from weeds.
