To get a rich harvest of cucumbers, it is necessary to provide them not only with proper care, but also protect them in advance from damage by diseases and pests. I will tell in this article what help iodine brings in this case, and share my experience in its use.
Is it possible to use iodine when watering cucumbers
When using this simple effective drug, you can not purchase expensive fertilizers and complex chemicals.
Iodine, due to its disinfectant qualities, prevents harmful organisms and individual bacteria from appearing.
In addition, the substance is actively involved in the process of nitrogen metabolism in the soil. So we can conclude that the use of iodine in the processing of cucumbers brings only one benefit.
Valuable qualities of iodine for a plant
This chemical element helps:
- activate the metabolism in the plant;
- rejuvenate foliage and lashes;
- accelerate its development;
- improve the taste of vegetables;
- increase productivity;
- accumulate ascorbic acid in fruits.
Recipe for making a remedy
Now I will share a recipe for a useful solution, which I myself use.
For this I use:
- warm water (3 l), you can take melted, rain or settled tap liquid:
- iodine (one drop).
I just dilute the substance in water.
Proper processing of cucumbers with iodine
Processing cucumbers with an iodine-containing solution can be carried out for various purposes. I'll tell you in what situations it needs to be applied, and how to do it.
Before boarding
Seed treatment before planting subsequently has a good effect on the green foliage of the crop, increases yield, and also creates effective protection against parasites and diseases.
I first dissolve the iodine in the liquid (1:10), then soak the seed in the solution for six hours. After the procedure, I plant the seeds in the soil.
Application for the protection and treatment of diseases
Iodine-based solutions help protect plants from various infections and, if necessary, treat them at certain phases of development, for example, during flowering or fruiting.
For preventive purposes, I use a solution based on milk and iodine. Cooking sequence:
- I breed in milk (1 l) iodine in the amount of 30 drops.
- Then the resulting solution is diluted in warm water (10 l).
- In order not to drip from the leaves, I add any liquid soap (1 tbsp. l).
- I spray the culture with a spray bottle. I carry out the procedure three days after planting the sprouts and continue to spray every week.
- Watering with clean water can be carried out only a day after the treatment.
Spraying is carried out in the late evening
In the treatment of diseases, I use iodine as follows:
- From root rot - a composition of liquid and substance in a ratio of 2: 1.
- From late blight - a solution of whey (1 l), iodine (40 drops) and add hydrogen peroxide (1 tbsp. l).
- From black aphids - in milk (1 l) I dilute the chemical (1 tsp. l), I dissolve the composition in water (10 l).
As a top dressing
Plants respond well to iodine-containing top dressings. With the help of root feeding, the culture is saturated with useful substances, foliar feeding helps to avoid the disease.
I make a solution from iodine (1 drop) and water (3 l), I water it under the root once every two weeks.
Security measures
When using such solutions in a greenhouse, it is necessary to use a respirator, since the released iodine vapors can lead to burns of the mucous membrane.
The use of iodine in the cultivation of cucumbers will help to preserve and grow a generous crop of fruits. And the inexpensive price of ingredients will save on the purchase of expensive drugs.
