Cabbage is considered one of the most capricious plants. To get a decent harvest, you need to create optimal conditions for the crop, paying attention to top dressing and watering. Also cabbage is often attacked by parasites. I grow the Gift variety on the site and now I will share my own experience in cultivating it.

The plant is medium late. Suitable for growing in the middle lane and in the northern regions. Cabbage Gift has strong immunity to diseases and harmful insects.
Origin of the variety
The variety was bred in 1961. at the Gribov breeding station. Since then, the Gift has gained its popularity among gardeners.
Cold resistance
Cabbage is suitable for cultivation in open beds and greenhouses. The plant is resistant to low temperatures, copes with unexpected frosts, grows well when sown by seed in an open area without the use of seedlings. The variety gives a decent harvest, subject to proper agricultural technology. Planting seeds and seedlings should be carried out at a temperature not lower than +4 ° C. Be sure to fertilize the soil with peat and manure before planting.
This variety, grown by seedling method, does not require additional hardening.

Heads of cabbage ripen in 130 days, counting from the moment the sprouts peck through to harvest. Weight varies between 3.5 and 6 kg. Cut vegetables are recommended to be placed in wooden boxes.
Culture Options
Cabbage Gift is familiar to almost all summer residents. The main characteristics of the variety:
- outlet diameter is reached up to 1 m;
- culture height reaches 60 cm;
- the head of cabbage is round, dense, slightly flat, the color is white, a slight yellowness is noticeable on the cut;
- Leaves pinnate, medium size.
Resistance to parasites and diseases
Planting garlic or tomatoes helps to save cabbage from damage by fungi and viruses. You can get rid of pests with insecticides, but ash powder also gives a good effect. It is enough to sprinkle ash on wet leaves and around the root. This procedure helps to get rid of dangerous parasites, such as:
- cabbage aphid;
- bear;
- cabbage fly.
A solution prepared from laundry soap also gives a good result. Practically after one or two spraying procedures, insects do not appear in old places, because they cannot stand the smell of soap.
Correct fit
The plant needs moist and fertile land with a high content of peat. In the central regions and in the north, a plant should be grown using seedlings. In the south, cabbage is grown with seeds immediately in open ground. As soon as the threat of return frosts has passed, you can start sowing seedlings, the right period comes in late April - early May.
After the appearance of three or four leaves, it is possible to transplant to a permanent place (in late May - early June). sprouts are carefully watered. Do not plant plants in heaps.
Basic care
The care list is:
- from irrigation - carried out at least twice a week, the water should be settled;
- hilling - performed after watering,
- weeding - carried out every 20 days;
- treatments for pests and diseases;
- top dressing - treated three times per season with nitrogen, complex mineral fertilizer, as well as potash.
After harvesting, cabbage residues must be burned.
Advantages and disadvantages
Grade advantages:
- long-term storage of dense, hard heads of cabbage;
- vegetables have a great taste, tolerate transportation well;
- fruits are resistant to diseases;
- tolerate temperature fluctuations.
The cons include:
- the plant is demanding on the sun;
- needs frequent watering;
- does not develop well on poor soil;
- poor seed germination.
