Suitable place to land a hosta

The plant does not tolerate direct sunlight. This means that it must be grown in shady areas without stagnant water. In this regard, when planting hostas at the bottom of the hole, you need to put drainage and only after that plant the culture.

Hostas can also be grown in low pots that look great in suburban home designs.

Proper planting and propagation of the plant

The culture is propagated by root division, seed method and cuttings.

The soil should be slightly acidic or neutral. Landing holes are prepared in advance. If the bushes are medium tall, then the distance between them should be up to 50-60 cm. And tall plants are planted at intervals of up to 100 cm from each other.

Hostas are best planted in the spring, when the threat of frost is over. The soil is prepared in the fall: they dig it up, fertilize it with organic matter. If planted in autumn, then no later than September 10-15.

Cultivation by splitting the rhizome

Bushes no younger than four years of age are suitable for dividing. This method can be used for both spring and autumn planting. The bush is carefully dug up so as not to damage the root system. Then the roots are washed and divided in such a way that at least 2-3 growth buds are present on each part. The host is planted in an open area and begin to care.

Growing with cuttings

A young shoot, separated from the plant, is placed in the ground, watered abundantly. The leaves wither: the stalk must be ill. After 3-4 days, the shoot takes root.

seed growing method

Not every variety can be propagated by seeds. Shamon and Aleganfog are best suited.

Seeds are soaked in a growth stimulator ("Zircon" and "Epin"). The container is prepared in advance by treating it with a solution of potassium permanganate. Drainage is placed at the bottom, a ready-made store substrate is poured, moistened and seeds are sown. Sprinkle with soil on top and cover the plantings with polyethylene.

Sprouts will hatch in 15-20 days. The soil is slightly moistened if necessary. Containers are placed in partial shade. As soon as three leaves appear on the seedlings, they are seated in separate pots and gradually hardened, taking them out into the street.

Landing and subsequent care at different times of the year

In early May, the host wakes up and you can start the first weeding and loosening of the soil. Adult crops can be divided, and hosts disturbed by transplantation should be fed with any fertilizer intended for ornamental deciduous plants.

In the summer, especially in the heat, it is necessary to water in the morning and evening. It is advisable to feed with organic matter. So that the bush does not turn out loose, the first flower stalks must be removed from the plant. If a transplant of an adult plant is required in the summer, it must be transplanted along with an earthen clod and then watered generously with the host.

If you decide to remove foliage from the hosta for the winter, do it carefully so as not to harm the growth buds. It is not recommended to feed the crop with mineral fertilizer in autumn. The last top dressing with a potassium-phosphorus agent is performed in September to nourish the root system.

Before the start of wintering, the soil around the plants should be mulched.

The decorative look of the hosta ideally decorates the garden plot and complements landscape compositions.
