The history of the Golubizna variety dates back more than 30 years, during which the potato has won its share of love and recognition from consumers. The vegetable was bred by Russian scientists and entered into the agricultural register in the early 90s. The potato got its name for the deep and rich color of the buds, which during flowering makes the bed look like a cornflower field.
The variety is predisposed to cultivation in the middle lane and northern regions, however, in our country it also successfully grows in the south.
From the first shoots to mature tubers, an average of 80-100 days pass. A more accurate time is determined by the climatic conditions of the region - the cooler the weather, the longer the tubers ripen. At the same time, the inflorescences steadfastly withstand possible return frosts and short periods of summer drought.
Variety Blueberry has strong immunity, resistant to most "family" diseases, but the general condition depends on the quality and implementation of preventive measures. Among the unique features of the potato, I would like to note the possibility of growth and fruiting with a close location of the underground aquifer without the risk of rot and mold.
The bush grows strong, strong, branched, with a lush dark green crown. The leaves are elongated, leathery, dense. Inflorescences are formed small and bright. Oval root crops reach a medium size (up to 110 g), have a gray rough peel. The flesh is milky white, low in starch, crumbly and pleasant to the taste.
The yield of the variety withstands high rates: from one hundred square meters you can get up to 500 kg of potatoes. Tubers are stored for a long time if standard storage measures are observed.
Advantages and disadvantages
Among the advantages, first of all, I will highlight the following qualities:
- high taste score;
- maintaining long and complex transportation;
- tolerance for climatic "force majeure" - cooling, drought, rainfall;
- strong immunity and resistance to major diseases;
- high yields;
- almost 100% seed germination.
The variety does not reveal obvious shortcomings. The only genetic trouble is when using one inoculum for several years, abnormal hollow tubers may appear (large in size with a void inside fetus). In order to avoid this situation, I advise you to completely replace the seed tubers with new ones every 2-3 years.
The subtleties of growing
In order for the potatoes to be stored for a long time and without damage, it is necessary to observe the term for planting tubers in the soil. This will not cause much trouble, since Blueberry is tolerant of insufficient warming of the soil and will rise even in cool weather. It is necessary to focus on a temperature mark of + 7 ° C, which limits the sowing period to the end of April - the beginning of May.
A competent crop rotation is also important for the variety: nightshade crops will become bad predecessors.
Suitable precursors:
- cabbage;
- cucumbers;
- zucchini;
- pumpkin;
- legumes.
I will reveal an important agrotechnical secret - after harvesting, the potato plot must be sown with green manure, which are then mowed and interfered with the soil. This procedure effectively restores nutrients in the fertile layer and helps the earth recover faster.
The soil should be light and loose, the distance between the holes is 40 cm.
In the future, care for the bushes does not go beyond standard measures.
