Jalapeno itself comes from Mexico, the name was formed from the city of Jalapo of the same name. Peppers belong to the large Chile family. At the stage of full ripening, the fruits grow up to 9 cm in length and acquire a rich green color. In terms of taste, the variety belongs to medium-sharp.
The variety can be called early, as the full growing season takes 70-80 days. The stems reach a height of a meter, and from one such bush you can get up to 35 ripe peppers.
I note an important feature: when overripe, the vegetable begins to turn red and in this state it becomes unsuitable for fresh consumption. It is finally dried and seasonings are prepared.
Use cases
Let's get acquainted with the culinary aspect of using Jalapeno. This pepper is most commonly found in Mexican, Spanish and Mediterranean cuisines.
Dishes that use fresh peppers:
- spicy sauces;
- salad dressings and appetizers;
- salads;

- hot vegetable and meat dishes - stews, casseroles, roasts;
- filling for tesa - pizzas, tacos, fajitas;
- stuffed vegetables.
In the national cuisine, there are such original recipes as Jalapeno jam or pepper chocolate, and in In Mexico, spicy pods are added to the local drink "Sangrita" - a mixture of citrus and tomato juices with spices and vegetables.
Burning pulp is used in cosmetology, adding it to masks for hair and skin, however, such folk beauty products have contraindications and cannot be thoughtlessly used.
Growing features
Pepper grows well in open space, in closed greenhouses and even at home as an ornamental plant.
Tell me more about Jalapeno seedlings
Seed material must be disinfected, soaked in a growth stimulator and planted in individual containers.
A suitable time for planting is March or early April, the more precise time depends on the geographical region.
As a substrate, it is better to purchase a ready-made mixture for peppers.
Emerging shoots love warmth and light, so an insulated window sill is perfect for pots. Watering seedlings is carried out with settled water at room temperature.
If the peppers were planted in common boxes, then the pick falls at the time when the seedlings have a second permanent leaf. However, it should be remembered that the plant does not tolerate such a procedure, so you should act as carefully as possible.
Seedlings are fed three times: after 3 leaves (nitrogen and potassium are added), 2 weeks after the first fertilizer (add phosphorus and common minerals), a couple of days before transplanting to permanent beds (feed complex facilities).
A couple of weeks before planting, the plants begin to gradually harden with colder air. You should start the procedure from half an hour and gradually add the time spent in the fresh air.
Seedlings are moved 1.5 months after germination. Since pepper crops are extremely thermophilic, you should wait until the frost has completely passed.
The process is best done in the absence of direct sun, after moistening the soil and drawing a diagram with a distance of 30 cm between plants.
For the first time, planting should be covered with a film or material to protect young shoots from the coolness of the first nights.
Further care consists in carrying out standard care procedures: regular watering, mulching, pinching, forming into two stems.
