A mother plant is chosen to collect seed. It is necessary to select strong and healthy pepper bushes. When selecting, it is important to pay attention to growth rate, pepper set, fruit size and uniformity.
When choosing fruits, you should consider the rules:
- selection is made from shoots of 1, 2 or 3 levels;
- select fruits that are most appropriate to the variety;
- collect material after reaching 40 days.
Seeds that come from room-ripened peppers will germinate better.
Collection Procedures
Use scissors or a sharp knife. You will also need paper, a plate and a marker to sign the material. Use gloves when picking hot peppers.
Ripe fruits need to be cut with a knife, remove the seeds. It is necessary to make a circular incision near the stem. Internal partitions need to be cut. You can cut the fruit in half.
The seeds are then dried. Some do it on the stalks. Plates with material are placed in a warm and dry room.
Seed storage
The dried material is placed in paper envelopes or bags. The paper "breathes", the seeds feel good, unlike plastic bottles.
Seed bags are then placed in a cool place with low humidity. You can store them at room temperature. Seeds, when properly stored, can be used for up to four years.
Preparation for disembarkation
The material must be sorted out, selecting large specimens. Next, the seeds are dipped in saline. To make it, take 1 liter of water and a large spoonful of salt. Seeds are disinfected in a 1% alcohol solution for half an hour. Next, the seeds are washed and dried.
To speed up the germination of seeds, you can apply a solution of chlorhexidine bigluconate. This tool can be purchased at a pharmacy, it is inexpensive. In specialized gardening stores, the drug has other names: Hexicon, Amident, Sebedin. Seeds need to be immersed in the solution for half an hour, and then rinsed. Next, the material is placed in several layers of gauze or immediately planted in the ground.
Hybrid varieties are resistant to negative environmental factors. They perfectly tolerate heavy rainfall, strong winds and sudden changes in temperature. Hybrids also show consistently high yields. But their minus is the high cost, as well as the impossibility of collecting seeds. Even if they are collected, they still will not sprout.
