Why Yuri Gagarin's spacesuit was not supposed to fall into the camera lens

Immediately after landing, Yuri Gagarin was photographed in some strange jacket that never looked like a space suit. From all this, there is a well-founded impression that the Soviet government was hiding something. Wouldn't it be better to show the protagonist of humanity in the 20th century in a "professional outfit"?

Yuri Gagarin's space suit technology was hidden for many years, as it was a secret Soviet development. What people are used to seeing in most of the photos (orange vest) is not actually a space suit. This is a camouflage orange cover that should hide a real spacesuit from inquisitive eyes and camera lenses. Interestingly, a year before the flight, the designers even considered the possibility of sending Yuri Gagarin without a spacesuit at all due to the increase in the mass of the ship. However, Sergei Pavlovich Korolev demanded to finalize the suit, saying that he was ready to sacrifice part of the Vostok scientific equipment for the sake of the safety of the first man in space.

Yuri Gagarin landed separately from the descent ship on two parachutes. For a long time, this fact was also kept secret. Gagarin landed on a potato field, notably frightening the locals in the face of the forester's wife and her daughter. After the arrival of the rescue team at the landing site, the first cosmonaut hit the camera lenses for the first time. In all these photographs, he is no longer in a spacesuit, but in some strange jacket. This is because by this moment the protective suit had already been removed from Yuri, since he weighed almost 20 kilograms. The employees of OKB-1 NII-88 and the KGB took away the protective suit "where necessary". So the cosmonaut appeared in all the photographs already wearing only one thermal suit - clothes to protect the body from cold and dampness.

If Yuri Gagarin were to land on unfriendly territory, he would be faced with the task of destroying the suit by any means necessary. In this case, the astronaut had instructions. In no case should technology get to "partners in a dangerous business." These technologies were classified until the 1990s, until they were corny sold to the West. Among other things, technologies for the production of Soviet fabrics for protective suits for cosmonauts were sold. But since Yuri Gagarin landed on Soviet territory, the suit was taken away by civil servants. Yuri Alekseevich came out to the frightened collective farmers with the words: “Do not be afraid, I am my own, Soviet!”
