Good day, dear readers! Today I want to tell you about a popular and well-known fertilizer called azofoska. Another name for fertilizer is nitroammophoska. Some gardeners are afraid of using this fertilizer, believing that harmful substances will accumulate in the fruits. However, if you know how to use this remedy correctly, you can only benefit.

I actively use this drug in my area. Below I will share the main nuances of its correct application.

Does the fertilizer contain dangerous nitrates?

Some gardeners still avoid the use of azofoska, because root crops and other vegetable crops can accumulate nitrates. However, this situation can only occur as a result of uncontrolled fertilization, as a result of which the amount of nutrients becomes excessive. If you follow the dosage strictly, the cultures will only benefit.

Many are confused by the prefix "nitro" in the name of the fertilizer. In fact, this only means that the main active elements, that is, nitrogen, potassium and phosphates, are included in the fertilizer in nitrate form. It is this approach that provides plants with the necessary amount of nutrients that are well absorbed.

How to use azofoska correctly?

To prevent the accumulation of nitrates in crops, you need to follow three basic rules:

  • Fertilizer should be applied only in the proportions indicated in the instructions. Only the use in the correct amount will ensure the complete absorption of substances in the nitrate form. Otherwise, an excess amount will accumulate in all parts of the plant, including fruits.
  • It is important to use not only mineral supplements as fertilizer, but to alternate them with organic matter. Do not fertilize crops with azophos for more than two seasons in a row. It is worth remembering that some organic matter (for example, manure) also contains nitrogen in large quantities. Therefore, for alternation with mineral dressings, it is better to give preference to compost.
  • Never apply azophoska to unheated soil. In cold soil, nitrates will accumulate in the upper layers of the soil, and then enter the roots of plants. In the spring, fertilizing should not be resorted to before the end of May. In the autumn period, it is worth stopping the use of azofoska after mid-September. Of course, it is always necessary to pay attention to the climatic features of your region.

Azofoska can be used for any vegetable crops, fruit trees and berry bushes. Fertilizer is effective even for flowers in a flower bed.

Since the fertilizer contains a lot of nitrogen, it is recommended to use azophoska at the seedling stage so that young plants gain a strong and healthy green mass faster.

The main advantages of azophoska

Among the main positive features of the fertilizer, I would note the following:

  • Azofoska is a universal tool that can be used on any type of soil.
  • Fertilizer consumption is very economical: it takes only up to 40 grams of fertilizer per square planting. The affordable price is another plus.
  • Availability of the product: Azofoska can be found on the shelf of any garden center.

If you have not found azophoska (nitroammophoska), you can purchase nitrophoska. All these drugs have a similar effect, only the quantitative ratio of the elements differs.

Fertilizer storage rules

Azofoska is a safe drug, but some storage rules must be observed:

  • Keep fertilizer away from open flames. Although the product does not ignite, it is capable of releasing gaseous poisons upon contact with fire.
  • Fertilizer dust is explosive. With a large accumulation of it in a small area, it can ignite.
  • For storage of azophoska, it is worth using polyethylene bags.
  • Check the tightness of the packaging. In an open package, azophoska loses all its properties within six months.

If you follow the storage rules and strictly follow the recommended dosages, you will be able to apply fertilizer without the risk of endangering horticultural crops.
