Most summer residents plant potatoes in the traditional way - under a shovel. But the harvest does not always live up to expectations. I know a few secrets on how to use a small area of land to get the maximum amount of crop. Now I will share my experience.
Dutch Landing Method
When using this technology, the bushes receive the maximum amount of light and nutrients. My tubers ripened large, with high taste qualities.
What is the secret? Let's figure it out:
- To begin with, I dug up the site and made furrows 30 cm deep.
- I left a distance of 75 cm between the rows.
- The tubers were laid in furrows, retreating 30 cm between each.
- Added a small amount of sifted ash and humus.
- I covered it with soil, forming a small ridge.
I draw special attention to the fact that I placed all the furrows strictly from south to north. Landing care with this technology was organized by the following:
- Watering 3 times per season: during the period of germination, flowering and the beginning of tuber formation.
- High hilling bushes, as they grow.
- Treatment of plants with insecticides against diseases and pests.
Using this method, it must be borne in mind that the planting material must be changed every 3 years, since it degenerates.
Mitlider method
With this technology, I made ridges 50 cm wide, retreating from each other 75 cm. He supplemented the landing with wooden sides, so that there was no need for hilling.
The method also allows you to arrange a potato planting in a small area and get an impressive harvest.
Gülich method
I advise you to pay attention to this method for those who have small areas. The technology consists in planting potatoes in several tiers:
- The plot is divided into small squares 1x1 m.
- He laid manure in the center and made a hole 30 cm deep.
- In the middle he placed a large tuber with a sprout down and sprinkled it with earth.
- As soon as sprouts appeared, a small amount of soil was poured into the center of the bush.
As a result of this method, I got a large number of shoots, this significantly increased the yield. From one bush I managed to collect 6 kg of large potatoes with excellent taste.
How to plant potatoes in a trench
The method is laborious and requires preparation of the site since the fall. However, when using it, I was able to collect up to 10 kg from the bush.
I chose a sunny site, protected from strong gusts of wind. I dug a trench 50 cm deep and poured organic matter to the bottom:
- peat;
- humus;
- manure;
- straw.
In the spring, so that the trenches warm up faster, I covered them with black agrofibre. As soon as the soil warmed up to a depth of 15 cm to a temperature of 8 ° C, he began planting.
Planting material was placed at a distance of 25 cm from each other and sprinkled with a mixture of components taken in equal parts:
- priming;
- humus;
- peat.
Re-covered with foil. After 14 days, the first shoots appeared. They were re-sprinkled with a nutrient mixture. This procedure was repeated 2 more times.
This technique allows you to get rid of weeds, retain moisture in the soil for a long time.
Classic method
Or planting potatoes under a shovel. With this technology, I dig planting holes 30 cm deep. At the bottom I put a small amount of wood ash, humus and superphosphate.
In each place 2-3 tubers and fall asleep with earth.
In the process of growth, periodically water and spud the plants.
So, there are traditional and new ways of growing potatoes. I have tried many of them in my practice and I will say that all have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, I try to choose a technology that will give the maximum yield.
