Many people think that the lawn is a weed and it is not afraid of anything, except that it needs to be cut on time to bring it back to normal. I want to warn against the wrong attitude: the lawn requires care no less, if not more, than other garden residents. Otherwise, it will turn into a sloppy clearing with bumps and bald spots.
One of the obvious problems that lawn owners often face is trampling. Mechanical damage forms empty areas that spoil the appearance. I want to tell you how to make a "repair" and protect the site from the problem.
Preparatory work
To restore bald spots, it is necessary to sow lawn grass in empty areas. It is best to do this in autumn or spring. The main thing is that the new greens have time to sprout and grow by 7-10 cm before the onset of low average daily temperatures.
The sequence of actions is as follows:
- Mow the entire lawn as low as possible.
- The top layer of soil must be loosened. Work pointwise in bald spots. Use a cultivator or rake.
Important! Choose the size of the garden tool according to the size of the problem areas.
- It is advisable to fertilize the soil before sowing. Use mineral fertilizer (approximately 10-20 g / m2, be guided by the type of your lawn grass). From myself, I recommend top dressing - potassium chloride in combination with superphosphate (1: 3).
- Rake fertilizer, level the soil.
Sowing seeds
When the preparatory work is carried out, you can start sowing. Separately, I want to warn against a common mistake that even experienced summer residents make, and then regret. I would like to quickly see the lawn again, even and dense, so there is a temptation to buy seeds of fast-growing grasses for overseeding.
Important! Never use a grass mixture other than the one you used when you first planted your lawn. A quick repair will turn into damage - the lawn will become spotty and uneven in height due to the different growth rates of different plants.
Final stage
Take something suitable for rolling, such as a regular 3 liter can of water. It is also convenient to work with a flat metal or plastic pipe. You need to compact the top layer of earth in the repaired areas. It is advisable to fence the site so that it is not walked on for a while. The first mowing is conveniently carried out with hand tools: a sickle or a scythe.

If your lawn has completely lost its appearance from trampling, you will have to process the entire clearing:
- loosen the entire area with a rake to a depth of about 1–1.5 cm;
- evenly distribute the seeds of the grass mixture mixed with the ground (1: 2);
- water the entire lawn;
- don't walk on the lawn.
Trampling protection
The most reliable way to protect against trampling is to install a plastic lawn net. But I will say right away - it is expensive, especially if you have a large clearing.
You can choose a high-strength grass mixture for sowing. The composition will include plants that form a dense and durable sod, such as meadow bluegrass. But there are pitfalls here. Such a landing does not tolerate stagnant water, so you need to immediately consider a system for the outflow of excess fluid.
During the rainy season, the soil gets wet, there is a big risk of trampling new bald spots. Try not to walk on the lawn during this time. Throw a board or piece of plywood if you need to walk on the grass, this will save it from trampling. The "sleeping" lawn is also quite tender and requires rest.
