3 ways to get rid of the gap between the wall and the bathroom, so as not to breed dampness and flood the neighbors

When a bath is installed, in 9 out of 10 cases, a significant gap remains between its side and the nearest wall - a gap. In a good way, this gap should be immediately disposed of by resorting to one of the finishing methods. Otherwise, the owner risks facing the fact that the water will constantly splash on the floor and flood the neighbors. But how can you fix the gap yourself without the help of specialists?

There are several ways to solve the problem with the gap between the wall and the bathroom. The first the easiest and most obvious way is to use ordinary cement mortar or tile adhesive. For one part of cement we take three parts of sand. By adding water we reach the consistency of sour cream. The solution is applied with a spatula. The top is well levelled. Then it remains to wait about a day for the solution to seize. Cheap and cheerful.

Second way - use mounting foam or silicone sealant. Of course, you need to take not the first one that comes across, but the one that has waterproof qualities. You can find out about this from the labeling of the foam. Parts of the bathtub and walls that should not be covered with foam can be covered with masking tape. Before applying the composition, the foam bottle is shaken properly. Complete curing of the insulating material will take several hours. Unnecessary residues are removed with a knife. You can also use silicone sealant. The application method is not much different from mounting foam. The main thing to remember is that if the mounting foam is held in the gap up to 5 mm, then the sealant cannot be used if the gap is larger than 3 mm.

Third way - put rags and cement mortar into action. In fact, this method is an improved version of what was described at the very beginning. The well-known mixture of cement and sand is used. The only difference is that the gap is not filled with the mortar itself, but with a strip of cotton rags that has been previously soaked in cement. After the structure dries, all remaining gaps are eliminated by laying an additional batch of cement mortar. Complete drying will take several days.

When the gaps are eliminated by any of the methods described, all that remains to be done is to choose a suitable decorative solution. The easiest and cheapest way is to use ordinary plastic corners. Curb tape, tile or galten will also help to hide the solution from the eyes.
