Previously, it seemed to me that polypropylene had solid advantages. Indeed, it is inexpensive, it is easy to mount it, you can find it in any hardware store. But upon closer examination, I found huge disadvantages that completely cover all the advantages of the material. And no matter how the "pseudo-plumbers" squealed (By the way, no one has called you for a long time! 😊), the fact remains.
I share with you my observations.
- 1. In polypropylene, the stretch coefficient reaches simply stunning indicators. The material does not tolerate high temperatures. After a while after starting the heating system, polypropylene pipes will go in waves.
Of course, you can make more mounts and install a compensator. But all this will not completely eliminate the problem. The waves on the pipes will remain.
- 2. You can not buy pipes by the bay. They are sold by 4 meters. To conduct heating in an ordinary house, you will have to make a lot of connections, buy fittings and other additional items. This significantly increases the budget, and also increases the risk of leaks.
- 3. Non-professional installers sometimes overexpose the pipe during welding, thereby reducing its diameter. As a result, the flow becomes worse, the coolant circulates poorly in the heating system.
- 4. Often, when installing plastic pipes, they need to be connected to metal ones. Since the materials have very different expansion coefficients, the connection will soon leak.
- 5. Simple plastic pipes do not have reinforcement. On sale there are reinforced products with foil, but they are expensive. Pipes with fiberglass are common, which is not resistant to severe frosts. Since polypropylene products are often stored incorrectly (in cold warehouses), various problems arise during their operation.
In this case, you will not be able to check the quality of the pipe upon purchase. Only after its installation and launch of the system will it be possible to judge how high-quality the product you have used.
- 6. The service life of polypropylene pipes is very short. Of course, manufacturers claim that their products last more than 50 years. Perhaps, if the pipes are provided with ideal conditions, then it will be so. But in real life, polypropylene products quickly fail, in 7-10 years.
