Review: Modern Deebot N8 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

  • Jun 07, 2022

I had the opportunity to explore the Ecovavs Deebot N8 robot vacuum cleaner with modern navigation, a powerful vacuum cleaner and wet cleaning.
I studied everything, tested it in action and will tell you.

Review: Modern Deebot N8 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Deebot N8 now costs 34,990 rubles (here it is to Yandex Market (now there is a promotion and it costs 29,990 rubles) and on Ozone).

The robot has a fairly high maximum suction power - 2300 Pa, works from a single charge up to 2 hours, has a height 9.3 cm, which allows it to clean under furniture, the volume of the dust container is 420 ml, filtration is three-stage with a HEPA filter on exit.

The set includes a base, a plate for wet cleaning, one reusable rag, ten disposable ones, instructions in Russian.

The main thing that should be in a modern robot vacuum cleaner is lidar, which allows the robot to navigate in space and build maps of the room. Surely everyone has come across a laser tape measure (a device that accurately measures distances using a laser beam). In lidar, almost the same "laser tape measure" is constantly spinning with the help of a motor and measures the distances to all objects and walls around the robot. The presence of lidar in the vacuum cleaner is immediately evident from the characteristic "turret".

In addition to the lidar, the vacuum cleaner has many more sensors: a collision sensor in the bumper, a jam sensor in the lidar body (its "turret" moves up and down a little), carpet sensor, fall sensors, wet plate presence sensor cleaning.

Thanks to the carpet sensor, the robot can automatically increase the suction power when it is on the carpet and bypass carpets when wet cleaning.

The charging base is very compact.

At the back, it has a wire winding compartment, allowing you to make sure that the wire comes out of the base exactly the length you need.

The body of the robot is made of matte white plastic, on which dust is much less noticeable than on the glossy black preferred by many other manufacturers.

A lid opens from above, under which there is a dust container, a mechanical switch (it is very useful to be able to completely disconnect the battery when the robot is not used for a long time), a Wi-Fi indicator, a reset button, and a tool to cleaning.

Cleaning the vacuum cleaner is made as convenient as possible: it is convenient to remove the container when the vacuum cleaner is charging. The side with filters opens completely for pouring debris.

Three-stage filtration - first mesh, then foam rubber, then HEPA filter.

The robot has two side brushes and six fall protection sensors.

All brushes are quickly and conveniently removed (the side ones are simply pulled out).

Container for water used in wet cleaning.

The plate, on which the rag is fastened with Velcro, has a hinged connection with the container, so that the rag always rests on the floor.

This is what the robot looks like from below in wet cleaning mode.

A rag is visible, adjacent to the floor.

There is only one button on the body of the robot - it turns on the robot, starts cleaning, and sends it to the base with a long press.

All settings are made through the Ecovacs Home app. There are also additional options for controlling the robot.

After the initial setup and connection to Wi-Fi, the application offers to create a map of the room. At the same time, the robot not only scans the room and creates a map, but also cleans it at the same time.

After creating a map, the application automatically divides the room into zones (in my case, this is a room, a corridor and a kitchen). Now you can choose the sequence of cleaning zones, run the robot only in certain zones, build virtual walls on the map, start cleaning in any delineated area.

In the application, you can configure many cleaning parameters (suction power, number of passes in one place, intensity of water supply). Of course, you can set up an automatic cleaning schedule.

Manual cleaning can be started both with a button on the vacuum cleaner body and in the application, as well as with the help of voice assistants (including Yandex Alice). During each cleaning (even if it was started by the button on the vacuum cleaner), the application shows in real time the movement of the vacuum cleaner on the map. The application even collects cleaning statistics with a record of the robot's movement trajectory. It also reminds you to remove the tank after wet cleaning and informs you about the time of using accessories. There's even a Wi-Fi signal strength map showing the (pretty accurate) location of the router.

During wet cleaning in standard mode, the floor becomes only slightly damp and dries completely after a few minutes.

A disposable rag after wiping a perfectly clean-looking water room floor. By the way, although this rag is considered disposable, no one forbids it to be washed and reused.

After cleaning the entire apartment, hair was wrapped around the brush. Cleaning it with the included tool is pretty quick and easy.

It is very convenient that the container is removed from the vacuum cleaner even when it is charging.

The vacuum cleaner has voice messages that can be switched off (including in Russian). It informs about the beginning and end of cleaning, the beginning of charging, and reminds you to remove the container after wet cleaning.

A huge plus of this model is that you can buy a self-cleaning base for it: first you can use the vacuum cleaner in a normal complete set, and if you get tired of manually emptying the container, buy the AUTO-EMPTY STATION base and the vacuum cleaner will start cleaning itself. However, a kit with a self-cleaning base can be bought right away, it is called Deebot N8 + and costs 47,490 rubles (Ozone).

I made a video review of this robot. Be sure to look at it - you can see how he builds a map, along what trajectory he moves, and how he competes with a cat for territory. :)

The robot vacuum cleaner Ecovavs Deebot N8 left me with a good impression: everything is done neatly and "wisely" (good plastic, high-quality assembly, easy cleaning, excellent navigation, automatic power boost on carpets and automatic carpet bypass when wet cleaning). Perhaps the only negative is the brush that winds the hair (however, it is quickly removed and easily cleaned with using a tool that is almost impossible to lose, because it has a regular place under the "hood" robot).

Peace for everyone!
