At the word fum-tape, ordinary people may think: “This is something from the category of plumbing. I probably won't need it." In fact, this material must be in any apartment and house. A fum-tape is made from fluoroplast.
She has a lot of advantages, but the main ones are that she stretches well and is heat resistant. If you wind a fum-tape on any connection, it will not be difficult to disassemble it in the future.
How to wind the fum tape correctly?
Sometimes even wrapping the tape around the threads does not help to get rid of leaks. Many begin to sin on the tape, to think that it is of poor quality. In fact, this is due to errors during winding. If everything is done correctly, then there will be no problems in the future.
I spoke with an experienced plumber and he gave me some helpful tips and tricks.
- 1. When winding the tape, you need to make sure that it does not twist. It brings all efforts to naught.
- 2. Since the tape is electrified during operation, you must first wet your fingers. In this case, the material will not stick to the fingers, twist.
- 3. Aligning an already wound tape is unrealistic. If you have assembled a connection, but decide to adjust it a little, you are unlikely to succeed. It will not be sealed. Such manipulations lead to leaks.
- 4. For each thread, a specific sealant is suitable. Thread pitch must be taken into account. The smaller it is, the thicker the tape should be used.
If you make an insufficient or excessive number of turns, then serious problems will arise in the future. It is a mistake to believe that the tape will not slip if it is wound with a margin. You can't do that!
Winding should be done along the thread. If you wind up against the course, then in the process of twisting the tape will slip and leakage is inevitable.
When winding the tape, you need to apply a little effort so as not to overtighten the material. The seal should fall into the threads. When making a new layer, you need to make sure that it overlaps the previous one by about half.
The last girth should slightly extend beyond the edge of the thread. This will prevent the tape from slipping.
It is best to do no more than 8 - 10 turns. But you need to look at the width and thickness of the tape. For example, if you use a 19 mm tape, 0.2 mm thick, 5 turns are enough for an inch thread.
Twisting the connections, first you need to make a few turns with your hands, and then continue to work with the key for more effort.
