The situation, which annoyed me for a long time and took a lot of energy, was finally resolved happily - I found the best option for closing the space between the beds in my own garden. The weeds stopped getting on my nerves, because they do not grow, and the issue itself was resolved for the minimum price, or, one might say, for free).
It is clear that plants growing in the garden should have easy and convenient access. Since in the summer I live in the country and move around the site almost continuously, for watering and hilling I just needed to make my work as convenient and comfortable as possible.
And if the paths between the beds, especially after rain, become impassable and the earth sticks to the shoes, then the pleasure from working on the site drops sharply.
I began to think and figure out different options for eliminating this serious shortcoming at the moment when I got sick of mowing the grass between the beds and dragging dirt into the dacha. There were several options, as well as the types of materials with which I tried to solve the problem:
- the first option is sawdust. I had to go to the nearest sawmill, buy a couple of bags of sawdust there and fill the passages with them. This is a good option, and the grass does not break through the sawdust, and it is dry.
But there is one thing, this method only works in dry weather. After rain, the amount of sawdust decreases sharply (they are washed away), and the rest of the positive role no longer plays, mixing with mud. Weeds immediately begin to grow actively.
The attempt ended in disappointment, although some told me that if the sawdust had been larger, the result could have been different;
- linoleum made me forget about track problems for a whole season. By the way, so that during precipitation it does not become too slippery, it must be laid upside down. Everything would be fine, but I didn’t manage to use the material for the next season, it just became corny;
- outdated carpets. After trying the old carpet, I realized that I hit the mark.
An excellent option in terms of the main indicators: it does not slip, water freely seeps through the material, weeds cannot penetrate the carpet. I cut the carpet into strips and ennobled my garden with them.
By the way, I'm not the only one. I recently learned that a neighbor has been using the same carpet strips for years. So this method is long-playing, which I am incredibly happy about.
