In 2015, I tested 198 batteries. After testing, the batteries were charged and some of them lay in the box for almost seven years.
I measured the voltage on these batteries and got interesting results.
Some batteries are completely "dead" - there is no voltage on them. Most were discharged to a voltage of 0.6-0.9 V (such batteries can be charged and they will work). But there are also batteries, the voltage on which is higher than 1.2 V - they can be put into any devices even now and they will work.
Here are these hero batteries that have retained their charge after seven years of storage.
Interestingly, almost all of them are united by the fact that they are made in Japan. As far as I know, there is only one nickel-metal hydride battery factory in Japan - this is FDK plant in Takasaki.
Apparently, all batteries made on FDK (and these are Eneloop, Fujitsu, Panasonic and some models of IKEA, Duracell, Ansmann, Powerex) have a much lower self-discharge than batteries made in all other factories around the world. the world. It seems that the Japanese still own such a technology for the production of batteries, which the Chinese fail to repeat.
By the way, the FDK website has characteristics and datasheets all their batteries.
I concluded for myself that when choosing batteries, you can not look at the brand, but look only at the country of production - if the batteries are made in Japan, then they are good.
Also, some manufacturers seem to write "Low Self-Discharged (LSD)" or "Ready for use" on regular non-LSD batteries for marketing purposes.
