As expected, Xiaomi introduced new smartphones from the Redmi budget line. These seem to be the most balanced and cheapest frameless devices on the market. Moreover, each of them is preparing to occupy their own niche.
So, Xiaomi Redmi 5 became a logical continuation of the Redmi line with 5-inch screens. However, since the company abandoned the bottom row of touch keys (their role is now played by on-screen touch keys) buttons that are hidden at the user's request), the smartphone received an elongated 5.7-inch screen with an aspect ratio 18:9.
As usual, an IPS matrix is used - but this time without huge frames on the sides and with minimized frames at the top and bottom. The screen resolution was HD+ (1440 x 720).
Among other characteristics of Redmi 5 are stated:
- Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor with Adreno 506 video accelerator
- 2/3 GB RAM and 16/32 internal memory
Cameras - 12 MP main and 5 MP front. The battery capacity was 3000 mAh.
An important advantage of the smartphone is its dimensions: despite the diagonal of 5.7 inches, Xiaomi Redmi 5 fits into the compact dimensions of its predecessors and does not exceed the size of any other smartphone in its class 5-inch.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Designed to replace devices from the Xiaomi Redmi Note line. Therefore, its main difference was the screen: the diagonal will be 5.99 inches, IPS matrix, minimal frames and FullHD+ resolution (2160 x 1080).
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus uses the familiar Snapdragon 625 as a processor. Depending on the variant, the amount of RAM will be 3 or 4 GB, and the permanent storage will be 32 or 64 GB.
Oddly enough, the larger representative of the line will receive the same cameras as the budget model with a 5.7-inch screen: 12 and 5 megapixels. But the volume of the built-in battery will be as much as 4000 mAh - as befits a smartphone with a FulHD screen.
Other characteristics are universal for both Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus:
- Separate slot for memory cards up to 128 GB,
- Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2,
- Connectors 3.5, microUSB and infrared port,
- fingerprint scanner on the back panel,
- MIUI 9 on Android 7.1.1.
Both models are already on sale. The first copies will begin to arrive to new owners on December 19.
