I confess that I have always been interested to know how to construct rim locks, those who work without larvae. But never at hand was not such a free product, and I was always afraid to make out working, not to wring his neck. A few days ago I was fortunate enough to unleash a lock and "meet" with his unit, when there was a failure and it is down one of the springs. The key is simply stuck in the lock device jammed and "neither there nor here!"
As usual under the law of meanness everything breaks at the most inopportune moment - namely, the output and late at night when all the shops are closed. In short, we had an hour to work "burglar", examining the window and getting into the house from the street!!! )))
... but the article is not about that, so ...
lock device pretty surprised me, as removing the cover, inside I saw one shaybochki, only 5 plates with springs and the bolt! And it's all!!! Physical performance was rather primitive.
Later, fumbled on the internet, I realized that this lock device is standard, and the system is called the secret of such locks lever (Plate with slits called code levers). Such locks manufactured weight, easy configuration and different sizes, and the principle of one and the same! Where are the elastic wire elements on the plates (as in the photo), and where the conventional springs.
Secret mechanism comprises a set of plates, which are in the free position. But after the key comes into engagement with the bolt - each of the plates at the back of the key occupies a certain position depending on the height of the "step" to the key bit.
After levers occupy a certain position, open corridor in the slots for moving the bolt plate rack, and the key to its free half-turn pushes the bolt. With the second half-turn there is the same, only opens the next corridor, as a result of one full turn key - Stand the bolt and the bolt itself are two positions aligned levers depending on the program (code), and then closes / opens Castle.
There is only one single position of the plates when the bolt, namely rack bolt passes in pritirochku to the slots!
Below is presented on the photo key point movement inside the lock. Each of levers corresponds to a protrusion on the key bit having a "secret" height.
Now I understand what the key is to guide or depression, it was impossible to insert the key the other side! )))
