Most electronic devices allow deviation from the standard voltage of 230 volts in the limit of 10%, i.e. from 207 to 253 volts. It is this pressure should be on the network by GOST 29322-92. Unfortunately, in some cases the supply voltage can be below or above the acceptable limits. In this case, the equipment must be connected to the network via a stabilizer.

Schneider Electric, with which now owns the APC brand, produces simple stabilizers Line-R series. I had the opportunity to study the model LS1500-RS.

Specifications LS1500-RS:

Input voltage: 184-284 B
Active power: 750 W
Full power: 1500 W
Stabilization accuracy: 10%
Output voltage: 198-242 B
stabilizer type: relay, three-stage
Cord length: 1 meter
Dimensions and weight: 119x95x180 mm, 1.96 kg.

For the analysis of the stabilizer, I connected it to a laboratory autotransformer (LATR), allows you to smoothly change the input voltage stabilizer.

The stabilizer works very simply: as long as the input voltage is in the range 208-250 volts it does not do anything, just giving the input voltage to the output. If the voltage falls below 208 volts to 250 volts or higher, the stabilizer includes lowering or raising by 13% (the relay clicks and illuminates yellow LED). Lowering or raising turned off when the voltage reaches 213 volts or lowered to 245 volts.

That's the way relate the input and output voltage regulator:

177-200
186-210
195-220
203-230
208-236
220-220
230-230
240-240
250-221
260-230
270-239
280-248
290-257

Protect from too low and not too high voltage - regulator would simply raise to 13% lower voltage and lower 13% is high.

The top panel of the stabilizer in three sockets and two indicators: green indicates that a stabilizer is included, yellow lights up when the voltage rises or falls.

Inside - a large auto-transformer and a control board.

Signed voltage from the transformer windings. 10.5V winding is used to power electronics.

Around the stabilizers, there are many myths. Many people believe that the stabilizer is a miraculous device that from the "bad" stress makes a "good" and protects the equipment. Sellers trying to "vparivat" stabilizers, with the purchase of any devices from the TV to the computer.
In fact, if your electricity supply company in compliance with GOST and electronics can be operated in the range of 230 V ± 10%, you do not need a stabilizer. He needed only if the network is often the voltage is below 207 volts or above 253 volts.

If consumers are more "picky" and require less voltage deviation from nominal, require a multi-stage regulator with a large number of "steps" voltage. Electronic relay or stabilizers typically provide stabilization accuracy 8-10% (5% less), and hybrid electromechanical 1.5-3% (0.5% less).

By the way, the most capricious power consumers are incandescent bulbs. Even the slightest change in the mains voltage, we see the light "trembling", abruptly changes its brightness. With increasing voltage light bulbs burn out quickly and at low start to light much dimmer. Thus, a 60-watt incandescent lamp at a voltage of 207 volts (minimum GOST) shines as 40-Watt nominal voltage and with a voltage of 180 volt 60-watt bulb "turns" in 25-watt. Avoid jumps the brightness of incandescent lamps can only be using a very high-precision regulator, but much easier replace them with LED lamps that shine with the same brightness even at very high voltage deviations power.

Stabilizer APC by Schneider Electric Line-R LS1500-RS stands from 2190 rubles.
