For me - the gardener, having suburban area in the Leningrad region, the problem with standing water between the actual beds each year. Since the low portion and marshy terrain, water accumulated in the furrows may be weeks. And this happens not only in the spring. Even after heavy rains my 8 hectare begin to turn into a swamp.
In such circumstances, gardening is not something that is difficult, almost impossible. Therefore, today I want to tell you about how I managed to solve this problem and what difficulties I encountered.
My paper will be divided into three-way, since the problem was solved in three ways simultaneously. they did not help individually.
1. As I raised portion
The most popular way, which I do not advise, it was the so-called "lifting portion". That is, a simple purchase of fertile soil and sand.
I resisted for a long time, since the cost of a cubic meter of fertile soil in my gardening (Even at that time, and that was 5-6 years ago) It reached 900 rubles. It is very expensive for me. But there was no exit, and I bought a couple of cars to 10 cubic meters.
Purchased land thick spread ground beds (Raised only one corner portion, as land was small), Raising them by 10 cm. But, I immediately faced another serious problem. All the water began to accumulate under my outhouse. After all, the land under it, I could not fill, and so it was almost on the ground. We had to do something else.
2. How do I plant trees
After buying the land the beds became really dry land, but the water has not disappeared from the site. He began to accumulate a summer kitchen. Therefore, I decided to try another way.
I read somewhere that establish suburban area drainage possible using trees, which are very fond of the water - birches and oaks. Therefore, I decided to plant a young birch trees for temporary shelters and on one side of the beds. In the first year until the trees were very young, the situation has not changed. But, in the second year I began to notice that the water goes faster. This, of course, does not completely solve the problem, but it did not have such serious.
3. As I was doing drainage
Despite the fact that the situation began to improve, after heavy rains under the outhouse was still water. Therefore, I have decided to make their own drainage.
To do this, I will share all the beds in the 4 zones, between which ditches dug to a depth of 35 - 40 cm. In each zone I've done smaller grooves - a depth of about 25 cm. They all overlap each other, and went into a large ditch.
After the creation of such a system of gutters has changed. Water almost ceased to stagnate and become instantly leave. However, now the site looks like an obstacle course. Next year I plan to cover the trench shields out of boards or anything else.
