The modern market is replete with a number of offers. Firms promise to install ceilings in a short time, clean up debris and give a good discount.

Why do people prefer this particular coating?

  • If the work is done correctly, the ceiling becomes smooth, beautiful, harmoniously fits into the interior.
  • Stretch ceilings are distinguished by their practicality, they are easy to wash: just wipe with a damp cloth. The coating does not absorb moisture, which excludes the appearance of mold and mildew.
  • Another advantage: stretch ceilings will save the apartment if you are flooded by the neighbors from above. The material will collect all the water.

But not everything is as perfect and smooth as it seems at first glance ...

Stretch ceilings contain PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Among other synthetic materials, this polymer is the second most consumed in the world. It contains ethylene and combined chlorine.

Such a chemical composition has a negative effect on the human body, harms the nervous system, and can cause paralysis and cancer.

The higher the temperature in a room with a stretch ceiling, the faster harmful substances evaporate from the material.

In saunas, baths and bathrooms, stretch ceilings are extremely dangerous.

To make the material more elastic, plasticizers are introduced into it. Evaporation, they can provoke kidney and liver diseases, negatively affect human immunity and even lead to female infertility.

If you opted for stretch ceilings, it is recommended to regularly ventilate the room. Keep in mind that if there is a small child in the room, then his health will suffer more than the health of an adult.

In such a situation, frequent ventilation can help. However, it is not always convenient to keep windows open.

Another significant disadvantage of such a coating is air tightness. Many people complain of constant headaches, as the room is full of toxic fumes and there is not enough oxygen in it. People with a good sense of smell may notice an unpleasant odor emitted by stretch ceilings.

After installing the coating, it is imperative to leave the room for a while and ventilate it well, otherwise the chemical gas can lead to poisoning.

I must say that not all manufacturers of stretch ceilings can provide a certificate of fire and hygiene safety. Make sure you have all the certificates in advance.

Often, air pressure on top of the tension belt causes problems. It grows for some time. As a result, even opening the door can provoke pop ceiling.

It can be concluded that stretch ceilings have many disadvantages, but also many advantages. Therefore, each person chooses for himself what is more important to him: his own health or the beautiful appearance of the premises.
