Why are tiles on the kitchen floor harmful and dangerous?

  • Dec 10, 2020

We built and built... And then we reached the kitchen. I, of course, immediately decided to lay tiles on the floor. The arguments were as follows: in the kitchen, someone is constantly spilling something, after the children there are many crumbs, and the easiest way to take care of the tiles. Moreover, the tiles will not rot from constant humidity.

When I was already one step away from renovating the kitchen floor, an old friend came to visit me. Vyacheslav, having learned that I was going to lay the tiles, began very actively and convincingly to dissuade me. His most important argument was that the dishes that fell on the tiles instantly shatter into small fragments.

If you put softer material (wood or laminate) on the kitchen floor, then the dishes are more likely to survive after falling. I will note that Vladimir is a couple of decades older than me, he already has grown-up children. Therefore, I had no reason not to believe the life experience of a friend. But I decided to do it my own way.

Soon there were brand new tiles on my kitchen floor. And only after a while I bitterly admitted that it was necessary to listen to the advice of an experienced uncle Slava. Many dishes were killed in a dishonest battle. Porcelain mugs, plates, glasses - all this turned into a pile of glass as soon as it appeared on the floor. Several years have passed, and we have repeatedly updated the service.

There have been attempts to save the dishes with a carpet laid on the tiles. However, the option turned out to be inconvenient and impractical. The kitchen needs to be cleaned constantly, especially after the children have eaten. The carpet quickly gets dirty, loses its appearance, and it is not easy to bring it back to its original form.

We visit the china shop every month to recover the losses. And since in our country everything is slowly and surely becoming more expensive, trips to the store significantly hit the family budget.

And I also want to touch on one more point. A wet tiled floor in the kitchen is traumatic. It can easily slip and be injured if dropped.

These are just my conclusions and thoughts, and they may differ from yours. I'm not going to teach or dissuade anyone, it's up to you to decide what floor in the kitchen will be. But I drew conclusions for myself, thanks to my own mistakes.
