How to save firewood when burning a stove.

Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that different firewood burns differently. Some burn faster, others smolder longer, while the amount of heat from them is also not the same. Not so long ago I learned that you can significantly save firewood and increase heat transfer.

First and foremost, the firewood must be stacked correctly!

Many people put firewood in the firebox in the form of a pyramid. But this method has a significant disadvantage: the ability to control and manage the process is lost. Burning is uneven, firewood quickly burns out.

I advise you to try the following styling option:

  • Place the wood in an even row first.
  • Then lay out a similar second row on top, shifting 5-10 centimeters to the right or left (you get a small step).
  • Put paper or small chips for kindling on the resulting step and light it.

Remember!Be sure to leave small gaps between the logs, otherwise the air will not find a way out. Only use dry wood for kindling.

The third point - the wood must be correct!

The amount of heat generated directly depends on the type of wood used for the firebox:

  • Logs with a lower density burn faster.
  • High density firewood has a higher heat dissipation.
  • More coals are left from dense wood, due to which heat is generated from them longer.
The rocks with the lowest density include linden, pine, spruce, fir, aspen and alder.
Maple, beech, apple, pear, larch, birch, oak, walnut and cherry are of medium density.
Among the trees from which dense logs are obtained, I can distinguish ash, acacia, plum, persimmon and boxwood.

Fourth, the logs need to be prepared in advance!

I strongly recommend that you bring the wood into the room in advance so that it will lie warm for at least two days. Thanks to this, heat costs will be reduced, they will flare up faster and heat the room better.

If you start lighting the logs just brought from the street, they will smoke and not completely burn out.

Fifth point - try hearth combustion

In this case, the logs must be laid in a special way. Place the largest wood on the bottom, the smallest on top, and cover them on top with chips or paper.

I would like to highlight the following advantages of this method:

  • The logs will completely burn out, giving off maximum heat.
  • The amount of volatiles released into the air is significantly reduced.
  • This method is environmentally friendly.
  • Firewood should be stacked in a pyramid.

Sixth - do not forget to monitor the combustion mode

The best option is for the logs to burn in medium mode. It is not advisable to allow them to burn strongly, then most of the heat will escape into the chimney. If the fire is small, the wood will not completely burn out.

In warmer months, less firewood is required to light the stove. It will not be possible to calculate the exact amount the first time. You will come to this after a while when you gain enough experience.

Seventh - you need to get rid of soot regularly

When there is too much soot in the furnace, the draft is significantly reduced, which means that the heat transfer is reduced.

It is necessary to regularly clean the chimney, use dry wood for the furnace. Thanks to this, the heat transfer will increase by 2-3 times. In addition, it will be possible to reduce the number of logs needed to heat the house.
