Currants need help from time to time to prolong their life. Bushes after 7 - 8 years from the moment of planting give less and less harvest from small berries, so they need to be replaced by reproduction. To do this, you should choose planting material from the best bushes of a proven variety.

  • At the end of June, cut off ripe, starting to grow stiff shoots from the bush with a thickness of 8 - 10 mm.
  • If the branch is long, then from its middle part 2 - 3 cuttings 18 - 20 cm long can be obtained. with 4 - 5 well-developed buds and one leaf on the top.
  • Slices on the cuttings are made at an angle, with the upper cut being made above the kidney, and the lower one under the kidney.
  • For the prevention of diseases it is advisable to hold the cuttings for some time in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
  • Make small grooves from the bottom of the cutting on the bark.
  • You need to plant cuttings on the day they are harvested. Before planting, the soil should be fertilized with humus, add ash and mix everything.

The acidity of the medium should be closer to neutral! It is advisable that direct sunlight does not fall on the cutting site.
  • Cuttings into prepared holes planted obliquely, - so that there is one kidney above the ground, and the second is at the very ground. The lower buds on the handle are underground.
  • After planting, water with the addition of compounds that stimulate the formation of roots to the water - this way they will root better.
  • Tamp the soil around the cuttings and cover with a layer of humus.
  • To create optimal rooting conditions cuttings need warmth. To do this, build arcs and fix the film on them. Cover the bottom of the film with earth so as not to be blown away by the wind.
  • During the growing season, seedlings must be looked after: get rid of weeds, loosen the soil near them, water and feed.
  • Feed the rooted cuttings with organic fertilizer, which is to use a weak solution of poultry droppings.
  • By the fall, the cuttings take root and give additional shoots.
  • Early next spring, young seedlings are ready for transplantation to a permanent place.
  • After planting seedlings, they must be watered and mulched with compost or humus. You can also use hay, straw, coniferous twigs as mulch. It is recommended to loosen the soil, remove weeds, and periodically water it in dry summers.
  • To enhance the growth of shoots in early spring, add 15 g of ammonium nitrate under each bush.
  • At the age of 4 years, currant bushes enter the season of abundant fruiting.
