It takes a lot of work to grow good seedlings. And it is very disappointing when already matured plants suddenly die.

However, if the “diagnosis” is recognized in time, there is always a chance to save the “patient”. For example, as is the case with Black-footed tomatoes.

The bacteria that cause this disease can be found in the soil and seedlings, and even in the seeds themselves. You can fight such an invisible enemy both with the help of special chemicals and folk remedies. I prefer the latter, and today I am sharing five of them with you.

Sand

The reason for the "black leg" may be excessive soil moisture. In order to prevent this from happening, the soil should not be homogeneous: I mix soil and sand in a 50 to 50 ratio. Some gardeners replace sand with vermiculite.

If a plant that has already been planted in ordinary soil is sick, sand can be sprinkled on top - it will take on excess moisture.

Ash + copper sulfate

There is another mixture that can protect the soil surface: 200 g of ash and 1 teaspoon of copper sulfate. If you sprinkle the soil with such a miracle powder, harmful bacteria simply cannot get to the plant.

Potassium permanganate

In common use - ordinary potassium permanganate. Before using it, the soil under the treated plants is thoroughly spilled with warm water, and then the solution is poured: 1 g of the preparation for 1 liter of water. The liquid should be slightly pink in color.

Attention! The increased concentration of potassium permanganate can burn the plant. You must be extremely careful with this method of disinfection! This procedure can be carried out only once a week.

Onion peel

Such a simple, but incredibly miraculous remedy, which is very popular among avid gardeners. Contained in the husk phytoncides save tomatoes and other plants from many different diseases.

Seedlings of tomatoes

There are several ways to prepare the "Easter" solution. I use the proven over the years:

  • I pour 500 g of husk into 3 liters of hot water.
  • I stir and insist in a dark place for 4-5 days.
  • I filter the resulting "elixir".
  • I pour it into a spray bottle and spray the plants.

Bordeaux mix

As you know, the best way to treat a disease is prevention. In order for your tomatoes not to get sick with the "black leg", you need to pour 5 ml of a solution with a 1% Bordeaux mixture into each well before planting. And then boldly plant tomatoes!

Patience to you, dear fellow gardeners, good luck and garden wisdom!
