How I want to quickly take up the garden! Plant grown seedlings, take care of them in anticipation of the coveted harvest... But it is still cold outside, at night the "garden mood" is spoiled by frosts.

A greenhouse will help to fulfill the dream of an early harvest. But in order not to be disappointed in its "magical properties", it is necessary to carefully approach not only its choice, but also the installation.

Five "secrets"

1. The main principle of dacha construction "so as not to interfere" - in the corner of the site, where the shadow from the house, trees or outbuildings falls - does not work in this case. On the contrary, the place should be the sunniest: preferably in the southeastern part.

2. Pay attention to the direction of the wind. It is not good if it blows directly onto the greenhouse. Polycarbonate (or glass) protecting plants is instantly cooled by aggressive air currents, which significantly affects the temperature inside the greenhouse. This is especially important in spring and autumn, when every degree is important in the struggle for the harvest.

3. When choosing a greenhouse location, it is important to keep in mind the quality of the soil. It is clear that later you will fertilize and improve the soil, but the initial substrate is also of great importance.

4. You should not locate a "garden greenhouse" in a lowland, where it is usually colder than on a flat part or a hill. In addition, an outbreak of diseases in plants can be provoked by high humidity, which low-lying areas "sin" with.

5. The closer the greenhouse is to the residential building, the better. And before the harvest is close at hand, and communications (water and electricity) will be much easier.

From my practice

Three years ago, we recklessly put a polycarbonate greenhouse right on the ground. We managed to bring land there, plant seedlings... And three days later we went out into the garden and were stunned: in the place of our "new building" there was a pile of twisted plastic mixed with earth and dead plants.

The cause of the cataclysm was a hurricane that passed at night. The wind was so strong that our brand new greenhouse, which had been quickly installed, took shape like a house of cards.

While I quietly mourned my ruined seedlings, my husband stoically got out of the situation: having bought a new greenhouse, he installed it on a solid plank foundation. I made reliable adhesions between the boards and polycarbonate, and from the outside I additionally fastened the greenhouse to the soil with two iron cables. For three years now we have been calm about our harvest!
