What is Bordeaux liquid? Thinking about wine? Ah, not only they are famous for the French province! This tool, without which we are nowhere in the garden, also comes from there. But it is connected with wine. It was used to scare away thieves from grapes. Brushes treated with a mixture of lime and copper sulphate looked sick. It was only later that the growers noticed another property of the solution - the fruits did not hurt. Then they realized that copper killed the fungus. Since then, Bordeaux liquid has been used to protect plants from fungal diseases.
So Bordeaux blend or liquid? How right
What is it in essence? Bordeaux mixture is copper sulfate (blue powder) and lime (white powder) in a certain proportion. If you dilute it in water, you get Bordeaux liquid. Correctly prepare Bordeaux liquid as follows: completely dissolve 50 g of copper sulfate in 1 liter of water, then add 1.5 liters of water.
We do the same with lime. We do this in different dishes. In no case in metal, so that oxidation does not occur. And an important point: after dissolving the powders, we pour the copper sulfate into the lime. Only THIS, NOT ANYWHERE!
What concentration is correct
We are used to the fact that if all else fails, Bordeaux mixture will come to the rescue. What is it good for? Yes, because, despite its complex chemical composition, it does not burn green leaves. Besides the benefits, no harm!) 0.5% solution works perfectly well in the treatment of problem plantings.
This is the safest concentration for plant and HUMAN health!
There is also 1%, 3%. A strong dosage for the solution is allowed once in early spring before bud break, the second after. "Healing potion" is made 1% and is carried out after harvest on the leaves. For example, for spraying trees.
Where to apply Bordeaux fluid
Viral fungal diseases attacked the vegetable garden and orchard? Or do you need prevention? Use an old and reliable garden crop protection product. The use of Bordeaux liquid will protect:
- plum, cherry, sweet cherry, peach from moniliosis, perforated spot;
- apple tree, pear from black cancer, scab, brown spot;
- berries from brown spot;
- peach, peony from curl;
- currants, gooseberries, raspberries from anthracnose, rust, spotting;
- tomatoes, potatoes from late blight, white spot, macrosporiosis;
- melons, watermelons, cucumbers, sugar beets against downy mildew, rust, ascochitis, bacteriosis;
- grapes for melanosis, rubella, cercosporosis, black rot, mildew.
When and how to spray with Bordeaux liquid
With it, you can start gardening work in early spring, and you can end the garden season with it. Treatment with Bordeaux liquid cannot be done during drought, rain. It should be carried out in the mornings and evenings. But don't get carried away too much. Remember! One month before harvesting, the last treatment with a weak concentration is carried out. In the fall, everything should be blue in our garden. After harvesting, treating, for example, an apple tree will bring many benefits. And here you can use the "strong medicine" - 3%!
