In order for your most important vitamin to grow like yeast in the garden, you need to feed the onion with this very yeast.
What is the secret of this unusual fertilizer? In addition to the fact that yeast accelerates the growth of both the bulb itself, which is in the ground, and its feathers, it improves the structure of the soil. And what is especially important - they contribute to the development of immunity to onion diseases and not dormant pests.
Earlier, I, probably, like many, after reading tips about yeast feeding, applied them without having studied this topic enough. And I just could not understand why they did not give me the results that all the garden advisers promised me. BUT now, having plowed the topic of yeast dressings up and down, I am doing everything right. And this has an amazing effect on my results!
I most often use pressed, so-called "live" yeast for feeding. Since I feed not only onions with yeast, but also all my other vegetable crops, I make a lot of solution. A ten-liter bucket of water only needs half a kilogram. In addition to yeast, I add the same amount of rye bread crumb. And to enhance the fermentation process, ditch the nettles and drain (any weeds will do) and crush them into the same bucket.
Before watering onion ridges with such a "dough", it should be infused in a dark place for two days. I use at a concentration of 100 ml of solution per 10 liters of water.
With dry yeast:
This is a less time consuming option. You need to dissolve only 10 g in a bucket of water, adding 2 tablespoons of sugar. For such a "tincture" you need only 3 hours.
You need to water the onion not with the resulting concentrate, but with diluted ones - in a ratio of 1: 5.
It's important not to overdo it!
When using yeast in the garden, you must be aware that:
- Yeast is not fertilizerand a stimulant for plants. These are a kind of microorganisms that activate the work of beneficial bacteria in the soil, which process organic matter into substances useful for plants. Therefore, the lack of organic matter in the soil can have the opposite effect.
- The yeast itself, having fulfilled its function, perishes, leaving behind many useful elements, including protein, which is subsequently converted into nitrogen.
- For the life of yeast, potassium is needed, which they take from the soil. Therefore, before feeding with "dough", you must first water the ridges with potash fertilizer. I use ordinary potassium sulfate, and sometimes I just lightly sprinkle the ridge with wood ash. Potassium nitrate is also suitable.
IMPORTANT! In order for the yeast to "work", the soil must be warm, well heated. In cold ground, no activation will work.
During the season, feeding onions with yeast is recommended three times:
- The first - 2 weeks after planting - 5 liters per 1 sq. m.
- The second is when the bulbs are 3 cm in diameter.
- The third one - 2 weeks after the second feeding.
