I thought about it for the first time when we bought a plot - 3.5 years ago, but somehow my hands did not reach. A lonely woman, surrounded by cats and cats, lives with us through 2 sites. And of course, all these pets walk around the neighborhood, including our courtyards.
3 years have passed since we had a fight and did not talk to her, but with cats it is impossible to fight, they continue to "sprinkle" fetid odors everywhere. I have already stopped paying attention to this, it then smells a little and evaporates after a few hours. Of course, not nice - but I'm used to it already :-)))
And, recently I met this cat lady in the store...
... while walking back - we started talking. According to her, she has 37 cats and cats (just tin!) With difficulty, but entered her position, but what to do? She likes to be surrounded by cats. Of course, taking the opportunity, I asked her how it was possible to avoid her cats not marking all the corners of the house for me. After all, they are sprinkled everywhere, both on children's toys, and on building materials... well, you yourself most likely know if you read my article :-))).
In fact, I was surprised when she told me that the usual "marks" for us are not all that cats are capable of! Animals secrete a secret from odor glands on the cheeks, around the eyes, on the paws and on the sides, so they very often rub with these parts of the body. Well, God bless them, they are not perceptible to a person, but the smell flying out from under the tail is annoying! :-)))
We do not even suspect that the owner of literally every item on the site is a cat, at least - he is sure of it)))))
In order to wean or at least somehow influence the tailed beasts, you need to understand that we are going to fight with nature, and you must admit that this is very difficult for a person. Therefore, before moving on to more time-consuming methods, I will note the most accessible one.
To prevent other people's cats from tagging, it is commonplace, but they need to block access to the yard. It's not easy to do, but you can try. As you know, even a high fence is not a barrier. If any tree grows nearby - then the cat, definitely - will be in our yard. All cracks under the wicket and under the gate must also be removed.
So besides the fence, what else can we influence to scare the cat away? Of course, these are the senses: smell, touch, sight, hearing.
Hearing
1. Tailed beasts cannot stand rustling and, having stepped on rustling material once, will no longer poke their way into this territory.
2. Ultrasonic electronic scarer with motion sensor. It is not cheap. Few places are sold, but you can find it, including in pet stores. The sound practically does not affect a person, but cats are afraid to approach.
Touch
1. A "red line" is made along the perimeter of the site, at least a meter wide (so that the cat does not jump) from rubble (or from small sharp stones).
2. There should be no sand in the yard. Cats are very finicky and do not like wet (oily black soil) or dense soil.
3. Automatic radial irrigation, triggered by a motion sensor.
Smell
Since cats have a strong sense of smell, the following methods work very well against cats:
1. Vinegar or ammonia. It is laborious, but these funds can be applied to any surface and closer than 3-4 meters - the cat will not come close. A huge minus - they evaporate quickly.
2. Chilli. If this culture is planted, then there will be no animals within a radius of several meters.
3. There are products on sale in pet stores that interrupt the cat smell. Means like "Antigadin". Thus, the cat will not mark the same object twice.
Vision
1. In the first place is the presence of a dog. Of course, her doggy character and dominance over cats are important. At the sight of dogs, after all, cats bypass them.
2. Own cat (not neutered). The cat knows its territory and will defend it.
