Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of the "Build for myself" channel!

When growing fruit crops, the water level is very important for the yield. The most optimal groundwater level is considered to be a depth of 4 to 6 meters and you can breathe a sigh of relief if you have this. The roots of the trees feel very comfortable under such conditions and you can plant any fruit crops. But what if the aquifer is near the surface of the earth?

In this article, I will talk about fruit trees and shrubs that can be planted at a high GWL and designate the permissible water depth for each of the crops.

Crops that are not at all afraid of oversaturation with water, and they also save trees in the neighborhood, draining the soil: sea buckthorn, viburnum, hawthorn, mountain ash.

But, apple and pear grafted onto a dwarf stock also easily copes in groundwater, lying at a level of even 1.5 m. (Mountain ash or quince rootstocks are very good for apple trees)
Root system plums It is roughly similar to a dwarf stock, so it can also easily cope with a water depth of 1.5 m.

For quince - 1.5 m is not a problem either.
In addition, the following berry bushes can easily overcome a close aquifer (up to 0.6 m): currants, blackberries, lingonberries, chokeberries and gooseberries. The exception is raspberry because of the deep root, therefore, for such a culture, the optimal GWL depth is 1 m.

Fruit trees like apple and pear easily survive GWL up to 2.5 m, since their root systems are similar in structure and have both vertical and powerful horizontal roots.

Cherries can also grow at a water depth of 2.5 m.But, the root system cherries is located even higher than that of cherries, so it freely survives at water depths up to 1.5-1.8 m.

Apricot - not a fan of a close UGV. At the age of 5 years, it already has a deep root, so for planting it it would be better to choose a hill or a hill with a groundwater level of more than 3 m.

An excellent solution for a site with a high GWL would be growing dwarf varieties. Due to the shallow root system (up to 60 cm), they can bear fruit well with GWL even 1 m.

Therefore, if you decide to plant fruit trees in your garden, you always need to know the depth occurrence of water and if it is very close to the surface - the best solution would be execute adding black soil.

I would be glad if the article became useful to you!
