Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of my channel!

In the old building codes, I found an interesting definition of a blind area, that it mainly serves to bypass the perimeter of the entire house for the purpose of examining the supporting building structures and, secondly, serves as a diversion water. Class! :-)))

According to Sir Isaac Newton's law, water tends downward, but spreads sideways along a depression curve, and the curvature of propagation depends solely on the density of the soil. Thus, if we approach the issue objectively, then the work of the blind area is to lengthen the filtration path of precipitation, to divert as much water as possible from the base of the foundation and prevent soaking grounds.

In fact, the blind area is a doomed construction, in other words - temporary. Whatever you do, it will always break: raise it with frosty heaving and lower it during a thaw. The blind area is designed to protect a more important structure to its own detriment, up to complete destruction, i.e. construction, worth 10,000 rubles. must protect your home, worth several million rubles, and this is her main task.

For myself, I realized that there is no need to pay fanatical attention to it, but it is enough to make it aesthetically pleasing and practical, as well as as simple as possible, but not at the expense of functionality.

Since this is a temporary construction, why waste money. Instead of concrete, I laid a PVC membrane, which took me 2 days: I dig a trench with a slope, shovel bayonet depth and 1 m wide, lay the membrane, sprinkle it with rubble. My photos:

We lay the membrane:

Falling asleep:

And to equip the upper part - there are many options and who in what way!

I. Lawn or flower beds around the house.

The cake is as follows:

  1. Crushed stone.
  1. Granotsev.
  2. Sand.
  3. Fertile layer.

II. Filling with gravel or beautiful pebbles.

Pie:

  1. Cheap crushed stone.
  2. Expensive pebbles.

III. Paving slabs, FEM or stone

Layers:

  1. Crushed stone.
  2. Granotsev.
  3. Tile / FEM / Stone.

And all this is much less labor-intensive than compacting the soil, laying a mesh, cutting expansion joints and pouring concrete. In addition, the concrete blind area will be necessary from time to time to fix, and PVC membrane or any other film of at least 300 microns is an elastic material that does not have rigidity and aesthetically deformations on the finish coating completely invisible.

The question arises: why bother for a week and overpay, if you can do everything in a few evenings and, moreover, it will be CHEAPER!

Additional plus: raising or lowering the level of the site, you do not have to break anything, but it is enough to remove or add rubble or soil, in extreme cases, disassemble the tiles and re-lay them, since this is not concrete!

A little advice!
The soil under any blind area must be native (of the same density) or a density higher than the soil of the site. This is due to the fact that in the soil, which is less dense, all water will be collected (rainwater, melting snow, groundwater):
Native soil clay -> only clay under the blind area.
The native soil is loam -> only loam or clay under the blind area.
Native soil sand -> under the blind area: clay, loam, sandy loam, sand

I really hope that the article was useful to you!
