Made an attic. I constantly cling to the roof with my head

  • Dec 11, 2020

Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of my channel.

First, I would like to answer the question: why did we make the attic floor?

The fact is that before construction, thinking about the project of a house, we really wanted a compact house and planned to make it one-story. But when the time came before obtaining a building permit, off we go: you get out of the border, and here the fire-prevention margins must be observed, and there the gas pipe - please, retreat and so on, so on, other.

Ultimately, deviating by all the rules from what is possible and impossible, according to our project we got a one-story house elongated with "sausage" - 8x16 with walk-through rooms. Of course, this will not work, therefore, in order to fit all the rooms we needed into the house, only a two-story building came out.

In the process of designing the facade of the building, my wife and I nevertheless came to a mutual decision - to make an attic, since externally such a house looks neater, more compact and fits very well on the site, compared to a full-fledged second floor.

It went on... foundation, walls, and then the roof were already ready. In the fall, I did the installation of the roofing and started the interior work.

The roof slope on the attic floor starts from 1.3 m - and it’s horrible how low it is. Whatever they say about the disadvantages of the attic - it's hot in summer, the rain is thundering - this is nonsense, if you do everything according to your mind. But, the constant bumping of her head is one big fat minus. From experience, I understand that at least the attic needs to be made 1.6-1.7 m.

While I was trimming the inside of the ceiling with an imitation of timber, I filled myself with a dozen cones. As soon as you straighten up - bang, bent down for a screwdriver, thought, again - grunt! :-)))

When the ceiling was ready, I said: "It's good that this is not drywall", otherwise all these broken holes would have to be repaired very often.

Until recently, we approached the walls - half-sitting. Now, I found a way out so as not to come close to the attic slope at all. I make in these rooms on both sides of the house - built-in furniture - deep beds and built-in wardrobes.

And since children will live in these rooms, I do not close the cupboards from the back side in order to leave a cozy corner - a "house".

The children's beds also had to be moved away from the wall, there I will make bedside shelves on three sides of the bed, I know that children like them :-)))

Therefore, in order not to fence the garden, my advice to those who are planning an attic - do not bevel very low, even though the house is getting taller.

Hope you find my experience useful! Thanks!
