In this article, I compare two shovels and test which shovel is best to use and in what conditions.
Shovel number 1 - universal, shovel-bayonet shovel, cost - 1,700 rubles. Tray (canvas) - regular spherical steel, handle - American ash.
Shovel number 2 - an ordinary shovel, bought at a hardware store for 200 rubles. The stalk is birch, the canvas is ordinary steel of an acute-angled shape with bent platforms (steps).
So, digging a trench
We all know that in the production of a trench, whether for communications or under a strip foundation, two shovels are used. The first is bayonet, the second is soviet. Removing the layer, bayonet - leaves loosened soil in the trench, which is subsequently removed with a shovel.
In this case, the manufacturer of a universal shovel claims that when operating such a shovel, there is no need to use two, since this variant of the shovel is universal.
But no! Despite the fact that a shovel for 1,700 rubles really captures more land and it is more convenient for it to throw the dug out layer of earth to the side, it does not provide even trench walls. As a result, you need to cut the walls - but this cannot be done, since the shape has a rounding. Therefore, we take a bayonet and level the walls. Further, with a universal shovel, it is not possible to normally pick up the loosened soil due to the semicircular blade and as a result: you need to have three shovels. We dig the first one, cut the second and loosen the soil with the third shovel, since this shovel is spherical and does not have a flat shape.
The conclusion is that it is not suitable for digging a trench!
Digging a vegetable garden

It is not suitable for digging a garden, because after excavating a layer of fertile soil, the lumps of earth must be interrupted (crumbled) into smaller ones. This does not work with this shovel, because the blade is again spherical and cannot be hit with an edge, the shovel is wrapped.
My conclusion
The shovel-bayonet shovel is a useless invention! The market offers many such universal shovels, but I don't understand why to buy them, since in in any case, we return after working with this shovel - to our old tools - to the shovel and to bayonet!
