Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of the "Build for myself" channel!
In the morning I went out into the yard and through the fence, through the netting-netting - I saw how the neighbor was winding something around the trees. A few hours later, all the trunks of fruit trees, including those in the local area, looked like this:
I assumed that this was some kind of protection, but I confess that as long as I live, I have never met such options. Live and learn! Of course, I got curious. The next day, I went up to a neighbor to find out what it is ...
This method of protection from small bugs, ants and caterpillars is called a hunting belt. As Lesha (neighbor) said, now he made a belt based on glue, but there are several more varieties (dry - catch insects without destruction, soaked in insecticides - they destroy everyone: both useful bugs and pests and etc.)
Most likely, you have at least once seen how insects walk along the trunk of trees or ants walk up a string together :-)))
The fact is that it is in the folds of the bark that a great many of those insects live that harm not only the branches and leaves, but also feed on the fruits of trees.
It is this belt that is a trap for them.
Barrel preparation
There are two options: in the first option, we peel or remove the bark, exposing the trunk. The second option is more gentle - the grooves are covered with clay. The goal is to get a flat surface that provides a snug fit for the belt.
A sticky (gummy) belt is made as follows: a cardboard rectangle is cut out with a length equal to the circumference of the trunk and a width of about 10 cm. Further, this cardboard is wrapped in any cloth (not synthetics).
Glue is applied to one side. Then, with this belt, the tree is wrapped with the sticky side outward and fixed with a bundle, wire or nylon thread.
How is glue made?
Rainproof glue can be purchased at your garden store, but you can also make your own. The easiest option is to use tar. The fact is that homemade glue has a smell and you need to spend time making, and special glue sold in stores is colorless and odorless. They are designed to protect trees and are bark-friendly, so many can be applied without a belt directly to the bark of the tree.
1st option: The tar is brought to a boil, after which burdock oil is slowly mixed in in an approximate ratio of 2: 1. The glue is cooked for 3-4 hours.
2nd option: per 100 g. we take 100 g of vegetable oil. wax. While this mixture is heated over low heat, mix the grease into it and remove it from the oven. As soon as the mixture starts to cool and thicken, it means that we did everything right and can be applied to the belt.
The belt is removed by the end of autumn and burned. According to a neighbor, this method is very effective and I adopted it!
