House made of ceramic blocks. I tell you what difficulties I still face during operation

  • Dec 11, 2020

Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of the "Build for Myself" channel!

My channel is dedicated to the construction of a house, the roof of which was covered in 2019. and proceeded to finish. At the moment, it is almost completed, now furniture is being purchased, stairs and sanitary furniture are being installed in the bathrooms. In other words, we are preparing to move into the house.

And, in this article, I will talk about the difficulties that I have experienced and are still experiencing due to walls made of hollow ceramic blocks, from the masonry process to direct operation.

Masonry

Despite the fact that the laying process is very fast and the work is inexpensive (1 person puts 80 blocks per working day at a price of 40 rubles / block), we had to fork out for a fine mesh.

It is used in each row in order to save mortar (according to technology), as well as to communicate with the facing material. In total, the cost of the mesh was about 20,000 rubles. for the house 8m. * 10m.

Also, I will note the complexity of processing warm ceramics.

In door and window openings, it was necessary to half a block, which is very laborious to do in order to get a geometrically correct half. I had to cut from all sides with a grinder to the entire depth of the disc, and only then did the block break off correctly. Usually, craftsmen do not have a specialized tool for cutting such blocks.

At the same time, the bricklayer counted the masonry of the halves as a whole block.

And the last, according to the masonry technology - the vertical seam is not filled and due to the not always even geometry, the groove-comb system is not airtight and is blown out (about this there is an article on the channel about comparing three houses and available by THISlink). To avoid blowing through, the master from the outside hammered the vertical seam with masonry mortar.

Operation of finished walls

Installation of front doors and windows was difficult for installers. All fastening elements were mounted on 2-3 turboprops, because they went into the void despite attempts to fasten them into the seam, and the use of chemical anchors - please pay 20,000 rubles (250-300 rubles. one hole).

When the walls had already been plastered, they began to install the heating. The fastening of all radiators is made exclusively on the chemical tanker, since all the fasteners either fail or dangle (no matter how the commercials protect this material).

But, here the chemical anchor came out cheaper and for all 11 radiators or 44 holes 7-8 cm deep. it took only 3 tubes of 800 rubles each.

Curtain rods - similarly, all are made on chemical anchors.

The positive thing is that it was very easy to groove, to do the installation of socket outlets and electrical boxes, as well as to lay plumbing pipes in the walls.

Before construction, I planned to make the whole house of warm ceramics, but in the process of erecting the external walls, I refused, making the internal walls from bricks, which later made my life easier, since the wall-mounted boiler, TVs and other heavy objects hang exclusively on brick partitions.

As for light hanging objects, for example paintings or shelves, there are no problems here. The depth of the fastener does not exceed the depth of the plaster, which is 3-5 cm. (plaster + block wall).

Some difficulties could be avoided by providing mortgages: in door and window openings it was necessary to carry out brickwork, and not half the blocks. Then the installation would have been easier.

As for heat loss and gas consumption, I still cannot judge, since the first winter is just ahead, but the fact remains that fasteners for heavy things without using a chemical tanker are impossible.

Good luck with your construction and repair!
