Sewer passage through the foundation. What is important to know and do before installation?

Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of my channel!

Each owner of a future home is faced with the issue of organizing the introduction of communications into the house and the topic of today's article is organization of drainage in cases where the sewer pipe is laid through the foundation into the previously made in it hole.

It is important to understand that drains are a liquid mass, which, in the event of a pipe leakage, can harm the structure by undermining or waterlogging the base under the cottage foundation.

The most important rule, which is dictated by SNiP (SNiP 2.04.01-85 *), is that a rigid joint between the pipeline and the foundation is not allowed, which means that there must be a gap between the pipe and the walls of reinforced concrete with seals, etc. elastic non-flammable materials. For seismic zones, the distance from the pipe to the walls of the foundation hole must be at least 200 mm.

Why should there be a gap?

Building codes necessarily take into account with a margin the possibility of uneven settlement of the foundation and sewer pipe. In this connection, this gap is sealed with an elastic material so that there is a possibility of slight displacements of the pipe relative to the house.

The illustration below shows a rigid joint without any gaps:

Further, there are two scenarios for the development of events during foundation settlement.

The first case shows a situation when the foundation has an insignificant settlement and the pipe even when the structure is displaced in depth by 1-2 cm. inevitably forms a counter-slope towards the house, which is fraught with constant stagnation of water and frequent blockages.

In the second case, the house shrinks by more than 2 cm, then the pipe works for a cut between the foundation and the ground, respectively, it does not withstands resistance and bursts, as a result of which we get waterlogging of the base under the house, which will inevitably lead to deformation buildings.

Recommendations

Casing or placing the pipeline in a case.

It is not necessary to make a case for the entire length of the sewage system, but it is enough to make its outlets 1 m in each direction: inside and outside the house.

A long sleeve allows you to insure the owner and prevent water leakage under the foundation, even in in case of any leakage at the socket (the junction of two pipes) and bring the water to a safe distance from buildings.

Due to the space between the main drain pipe and the liner, the house sediment is also not terrible. In addition to everything, you get a design in which the overhaul of the sewage system will be much easier, in contrast to laying without covers.

In conclusion, I want to note that the sleeve is nothing more than an ordinary sewer pipe, only of a larger diameter, for example, 160 or 200 mm. Its cost is not much higher than that of 110 mm pipes. Therefore, I advise you not to regret 1,500 rubles and take a more responsible attitude towards the intersection of communications with vertical underground structures.

I hope this article was useful to you. Thanks for attention!
