Since childhood, my parents took me with them to potatoes, but then it took too much time to care for this plant (considering that we did everything together). We had a small dacha, to which we went with our parents to help our grandmother. Then my parents bought a house in the village and my sister and I spent the whole summer there.
Even then, I was wondering how this whole process could be mechanized. Large plots of land are cultivated by special agricultural machinery, but they cannot be used in the garden. I understood that there must be some kind of "manual" devices. A couple of years ago, on the Internet, I saw a special device for hilling potatoes.
I decided to order this necessary thing for my mother, because I was tired of looking at her annual torment in the garden. At the same time, we tested it as a device in practice. I paid only 1,900 rubles for the hiller. It looks like a simple design, consisting of two discs. These discs are fixed in a special way and the distance between them can be adjusted by yourself.
When the hiller arrived, my mother was immediately skeptical. Initially, we decided to try the device on the "worse" beds. We realized that we needed to adjust the discs and try to spud. It turned out like this: two people walked between the rows, pulled the hiller by the long handle, and I controlled the discs from behind. The process went quickly and efficiently.
Together with the smoke breaks, we walked almost 40 rows in two hours. Previously, this amount of work took us up to 3 days. I’ll tell you more that before we “moved away” from this difficult work for a couple of days. Even my mother changed her mind for the better and now the hiller is our friend and helper.
Recently I saw it on another site, where it cost just over 2,500 rubles. A neighbor in the country said that she bought such a hiller 5 years ago and then it cost about 1,500 rubles. Moreover, she bought it by chance in the market (she did not want to take it, the seller persuaded her). The good thing about this device is that the discs can be adjusted to the angle you need for your beds.
It is good that now there is modern technology (including such a "manual" one), which makes life much easier for summer residents. Try it, we recommend! The only thing is that at least 2 people are needed to organize work with a hiller (or preferably 3, as in our case).
