Greetings to all metal lovers!
Today I will show one welding and locksmith trick, how, without a clamp and a vice, to firmly fix small parts for processing with a grinder. Practicing welders know this, of course, but it will be useful for self-taught beginners.
Today at work I had to grind several dozen old loops from the Kamaz trailer with a grinder. I dismantled these hinges from the old rotten sides, welded new ones, and these hinges need to be restored to normal condition before welding.
First you need to cut off the remnants of old seams, and then grind everything with a grinding wheel.
Naturally, the hinges need to be fixed, it is simply inconvenient to press this part with a clamp, and the screw of the clamp will interfere with the grinder's disk. The second option is to clamp the part in a vice, but I also rejected this idea. I will need to do a lot of unnecessary operations - cut each loop, turn off the grinder, take it out of the vice, and so on with each detail, for a long time. See what solution was found.
We put a wooden block on one side of the part, and we tack the other side by welding to a sheet of metal. All the loops turned out to be in a row. Now their processing will not be difficult and we will not be interrupted for unnecessary operations, like on a conveyor!
Saw off excess seam residues, go through with a cleaning disc, and get the desired result with minimal effort and time.
That's it, the work is done, the surface is ready for welding. It remains to cut the potholders and also clean up these places a little.
Welders sometimes use this method of fixing, so take the knowledge of working with metal into your arsenal!
