How to adjust two sheets of metal before welding so that there is no gap. Even a needle will not go through!

In the household, at the kalym or at work, it is sometimes required to weld structures where metal sheets must be precisely fitted end-to-end. Today I will show one trick, having learned that you will adjust any joint so that even a needle will not go through!

The photographs above show a finely fitted 2mm sheet metal joint. It was I who joined 2 sheets of metal, which I welded to the frame made of shaped pipes. It was the manufacture of a 3-meter Kamaz board. See how it was.

The board itself has a length of a little more than 3 x meters, a sheet of metal 2 mm, with which I will sew the frame 2.5 meters long, I need to build up another 50 cm of sheet metal end-to-end.

The sheet metal sheet around the perimeter should be 10 mm less than the frame of the bead, we will need to comply with this size with the extended piece.

We measure the length of the desired piece, I have already cut the metal in width, I will need to make 5 of these sides, I'm in a hurry, cleaning is already starting. But I cut a piece of sheet 20 mm longer than the exact size, then it will be clear why this should be done.

We expose the sawn-off piece on the frame with the same distances along the perimeter - 10 mm to the edges. And most importantly, why did we saw off a little longer, we run the excess under a long sheet.

We press a small sheet with clamps, a large one has already been tacked by welding for several tacks. We press the bottom sheet with a large sheet, and with a small grinder we make a furrow in the bottom sheet, leading along the edge as along a guide.

Also with a small grinder, because you need to cut very carefully, we lead exactly along the intended furrow. We cut it off, now we combine the joint, everything is perfect, there are no gaps, which is what we needed. We grab it, put the first tack in the middle, then along the edges. Immediately from the edge it is impossible - it will lead away and a gap will turn out on the opposite edge.

We grind the tack welds with a grinder, but not flush, but leave a little for reinforcement. On the inside, we also put short stitching staggered in relation to the outside.
