A beginner in any job is always curious about how easily and quickly some action is obtained from experienced in this field. Most handy people have grinders at home with at least 125 discs. Today I will share one trick, how I cut a corner with a grinder in one pass, and at the same time it turns out quickly and smoothly.
We have a piece of a corner, not even a corner, but a piece of a shelf with a base from the channel. It is twice as thick as a corner of the same size, the more interesting the example with its sharpness will be.
I will cut with a small grinder on a 125 disc. Cutting disc thickness 1.6 mm. The rotation of the disc on my grinder is set with sparks on itself, I always cut it like that and repeatedly showed it in my articles on the channel.
Marked 3 lines on both corner shelves. I will cut along these lines. Look further, first I will show the theory, and then we will cut it in practice and see the result.
Now you need to go along the markings with a disk, making shallow grooves in the metal. They are needed for two purposes. The groove will be an excellent visible landmark. When sparks fly during cutting, the markings will become less visible, and the groove on the metal is highlighted with sparks and is very visible. It is also a good guide for the disc.
We start cutting from the top of the corner, deepen the disc a little and here we will make special movements. The tail of the grinder should be raised and lowered. These actions are smooth, without jerks. Why do that? The disc is much faster and cuts better into metal. We focus on the marked grooves and boldly cut.
The channel has hundreds of tips for beginners and self-taught in welding. After that, check out other articles so you don't waste time with trial and error!
Let's start cutting itself. I have already described all the actions, we just follow them and we get an excellent result.
Let's attach a metal square to the end of the corner to check the accuracy of the 90 degree cut. Everything worked out, as always, exactly. The method I showed is quite simple, but it is rather difficult to cut crookedly!
