A wooden pallet is also useful. It is not necessary to have a whole pallet in the garage, half of it is quite enough. The whole is quite heavy, and the half is lighter and enough for the eyes for welding. The pallet is also needed for welding if the surface is wet or completely metal. It is overcurrent protection.
For comfortable welding, if you have to lean on your knee, you can try using rubber knee pads. But I did not like working in them, it pinches my leg during long work. Therefore, I have them lying around in the garage idle.
Even just sit down and relax, the rubber mat on the pallet will replace your bench! Even during the cold season when any other surface is very cold.
And where to get such a rubber carpet, because the store does not sell such. It's simple, my mat is just a truck mudguard. A familiar driver gave it to me. So this is not a shortage, contact your friends, truck drivers, they will help. In extreme cases, you can drop into a metal collection point (ferrous metal), trucks or truck trailers are often disposed of there. A couple of old mud flaps won't take much from you!
