Greetings to all metal lovers!
Whoever tried to cut welded structures with a grinder knows that it is not easy, it is not easy not to spoil all 2 parts with the angle grinder cutting disc. Today there will be a description of such work, which I often have to do. And on a practical example, I will show you one trick when, when cutting a welded structure, one of the parts will remain untouched by the grinder's disc.
I need to weld a full-fledged structure from the semi-trailer platform for the transportation of bulk cargo. Such work always begins with the dismantling of unnecessary pieces of iron.
Here is the bracket for fastening the factory sides, I need to cut them off without sinking the disc into the side channel of the trailer. Welding here is solid, the seam is tightly welded.
In such cases, we first assume at what angle the welding was carried out, I mean the angles from the electrode or a semiautomatic welding gun relative to these welded parts. This is very important, so we estimate at what angle the weld was buried in the base metal.
When cutting, we will keep the disc at the same angle as the welding was carried out. But the very beginning of the cut, we need to do along the edge of the seam, which will be on this bracket.
Sawing, cutting, separating! Here, in one article in the comments, there was a dispute, some say that it is correct to use the word saw. and we cut other words. But I don't see any difference.
A couple of three blows with a hammer, and the bracket is separated from the channel.
We did everything neatly, we did not go deep into the main channel, now it remains to go through with a sharpening disk, grind off the welds.
The weld spot is now smooth, if it had been cut in a different way, this channel would have been in the recesses from the disc.
Friends, I filmed this work on a video, where I told in detail why it is worth cutting this way, if you are interested in this topic, then watch the video to the end. Frankly, the sound will not be very good in some places - there was a strong wind that day, but the most important thing is clear and audible.
