Friends, I welcome everyone! Today there will be another useful article in the piggy bank for all self-taught beginners in manual arc welding.

As they say, a beautiful seam is a strong seam. This is often the case if the correct amperage, welding speed and minimum arc length are selected. Of these conditions, the most difficult for a beginner will be the ability to keep a constant short arc throughout the entire length of the weld.

After reading this material, even the most novice amateur, having come to his garage and picking up a welding holder, will be able to weld on a constantly short arc, it is very simple.

Friends, when welding with electrodes, you need to observe the length of the welding arc within 0.5-1 of the electrode diameter.

If this is not done, welding on a longer arc, then we will have the following problems - a long arc will have a smaller penetration depth metal, spatter, and hence the consumption of electrodes will increase, the welding speed will increase, and the quality of the weld will be strong suffer.

Let's see the theory of the process itself. Here we light the electrode, knock or strike on the metal surface. The electrode caught fire, an arc was formed, the rod and coating are consumed and the arc itself begins to lengthen, and this is already a violation of the process, what should we do?

He is not a human being, and it is impossible to keep the minimum short arc all the time. Many years ago I came up with an easy way. When welding, you need to often touch the electrode with the metal to be welded, you can say you have to lightly tap the electrode on the surface.

It is thanks to this action that our arc will be constantly short, and with these movements we will additionally stir the weld pool, while improving the formation of the seam. Here's an elementary way.

For an illustrative example, I took a plate, I will weld 2 seams on it. I will make the first seam without observing the minimum arc length, I will deliberately change its length throughout the welding. And I will make the second seam at the minimum arc length in the way I described above.

The first seam was made.

The second seam is ready, let it cool a little, remove the slag and see what happened. What difference will we have after welding if we do not observe the minimum arc length.

Friends, for a complete clarity of this method and example, let's watch the video. I made it for you to show all the details.
