Owners of private plots know how important it is in autumn to prepare the greenhouse in time for the next harvest and preserve it for the winter. Due to the lack of natural soil renewal, confined space, and a rare change of vegetable crops, the indicated the building will turn into a breeding ground for pathogenic microorganisms, leading to plant diseases and reduced fertility land. Many gardeners are interested in what to do in the greenhouse in the fall. Preparatory work on processing the structure for the next season includes several important activities.

Post-harvest cleaning
Initially, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the building. To do this, collect:
- fertile parts of the plant along with the roots;
- household waste (leftover household equipment);
- garter material (trellises, laces, pegs, arcs);
- covering film, etc.
Plants and household waste are burned rather than put into a compost pit. This is necessary in order to destroy along with them all harmful insects and their larvae.
The aisles are freed from weeds, swept. It should be well sprinkled with sawdust, which will absorb excess moisture and create an aesthetic appearance. The beds are dug up, carefully selecting the roots and remnants of vegetation.
Household equipment is checked and removed until spring in a specially designated place in the shed - rakes, shovels, garden pitchforks, hoes, etc.
Drip irrigation systems, buckets, watering cans, barrels are freed from water, inspected for damage, and restored if necessary. Pipes and connections of the irrigation system are disinfected with Pekacid or phosphoric acid, and dried well.
If there is electricity in the greenhouse, humidity and temperature sensors or an automatic heating system are installed, then everything should be turned off, dismantled and removed to a warm room.
If necessary, the building frame is strengthened or repaired, the cover is replaced or removed. Polycarbonate is often strengthened for the winter by substituting supports. This will prevent the material from breaking under the weight of the snow.
Greenhouse treatment and soil disinfection
From the inside and outside, all the components of the structure are well washed out with the addition of disinfectants. For these purposes, you can use tar soap or chlorine-containing solutions (Whiteness). So they get rid of mold and mildew.
To increase the service life of a wooden structure, an antiseptic (Ecobio) is used. Parts of the frame made of metal are treated with a rust remover and painted.
Often to kill pests (whiteflies, spider mites) and various plant diseases (causative agents of root rot and late blight), a special checker ("Climate") with sulfurous anhydride. The checker burns for 4-5 hours. Sulfur residues penetrate into the soil, thereby improving its chemical composition. It is forbidden to enter the greenhouse during the action of the product and 3 days later, so as not to harm health. After carrying out these works, the greenhouse is ventilated for at least 8 hours.
The dug-up beds must be disinfected. For this, biological agents with a wide spectrum of action are used, which not only destroy harmful microorganisms, but also heal the soil. These include:
- Phytocide-p;
- Fitosporin-M;
- Baktofit;
- Baikal EM-5, etc.
Preparations are applied to a depth of 10 cm before frost; deep digging is performed. The decomposition of chemicals and plant residues can be accelerated with special preparations.
It is possible to improve the condition of the soil in the greenhouse by introducing various mineral and organic fertilizers, planting green manure (oats, mustard, oil radish, etc.).
A warm garden bed in spring will be a good help for the gardener. To do this, in the autumn, fresh manure is introduced into the dug trenches and covered with earth and plant residues from above, left to re-heat.
If the soil is very depleted, then in order to obtain good yields in the future, a complete replacement of its top layer will be required. For this, soil up to 10 cm thick is removed with a shovel and transported outside the site. Then fertile land is introduced in the same amount.
