Harvesting is the primary goal of people who plant seedlings. But not everyone knows how to save seedlings from frost and increase yields. Greenhouse selection, installation, coating and polycarbonate colors play an important role in plant productivity.

How to choose a versatile greenhouse?
The frost in May can change plans for a good harvest if there is no universal greenhouse that can protect from the cold. Covering the greenhouse excludes freezing of seedlings planted in greenhouses. You need to know how to find the right greenhouse. Experienced gardeners believe that design and coating are of no small importance.
Traditionally, greenhouses were covered with glass or plastic. However, these materials were replaced by cellular polycarbonate. It includes several parallel walls, the stiffeners located between them, recreate a cellular structure filled with air (honeycomb). Due to the air content in the honeycomb covering, the proper level of thermal insulation is provided. The heat retention rate of polycarbonate is 1.6 times higher than that of glass. Polycarbonate is 13 times lighter than glass: the greater the thickness parameters, the better the material retains heat in the greenhouse.
Material with 4 mm sheet thickness parameters is in demand. For example, polycarbonate with a thickness of 6 mm is 11% better at saving heat than a traditionally used sheet for a greenhouse, material with a thickness of 4 mm, and 10 mm - by 25%. The larger size of the honeycomb filled with air for sheets with a thickness of 10 mm contributes to an increase in heat-saving characteristics, provides adequate protection from the cold.
Vegetation in a greenhouse with a thick polycarbonate cover helps to increase the yield, which is collected until the snow falls. The thickness of the material affects the strength parameters while maintaining the optimal structure weight: for a 6 m sheet with 4 mm thickness parameters, a weight of 7.4 kg is permissible. Materials with other characteristics:
- 6 mm - 13.7 kg;
- 8 mm - 14.6 kg;
- 10 mm - 15 kg.
What you need to know when choosing polycarbonate?
Consider the following features:
- Biological layer. Additional layers are applied to the material. The biological task is to correct the parameters of the sun radiation wavelength. It pushes hard radiation towards the useful infrared, which achieves the greatest efficiency in photosynthesis. In the greenhouse, the microclimate and photosynthesis improve, intensive ripening begins, and the yield increases.
- Coating color. You can find polycarbonate greenhouses in various colors. The brightness of the coating is attractive, but there is no need to rush to acquire multi-colored material - this will not increase the yield, and will not benefit the plants. The polycarbonate chosen for the greenhouse should be white. Any shade will reduce the light transmission, which negatively affects the development of the plant. You need to know this when assembling the greenhouse yourself.
- It takes time. To begin with, the area on which it is planned to install a greenhouse is cleared, the ground is leveled. Alternatively, you can attract specialists who will assemble a greenhouse for a reasonable fee. Even high quality material is not able to provide adequate protection of plants from frost if the greenhouse is not airtight (there are slots through which cold air enters). To ensure the proper level of heat saving, gaps in the frame are excluded.
Polycarbonate breaks down when exposed to ultraviolet rays. To protect the coating, a special layer is additionally applied. Without such, the service life of the material is 2 years, polycarbonate becomes yellow, becomes cloudy, and collapses. There is no definitive way to test a UV layer. The only thing that is required to purchase a quality coating is to purchase the material from an experienced supplier.
