For early harvest, winter greenhouses are used. In the cold season, such a building is heated to maintain the optimal temperature. The use of electricity is very expensive, but there are ways to make heating more economical.

Heating the greenhouse in winter
There are such options:
- Stretch film. It is also called pimpled. This film is usually used to wrap fragile goods in stores before being sold. Due to its structure, heat is perfectly retained and drafts are prevented. The stretch film is strong enough, but at the same time transmits the light that plants need. You need to fix it with tape. Particular attention should be paid to the joints. An additional advantage of this film is that, due to its pimpled surface, the site of damage is always visible.
- Separation. To keep the greenhouse warm in winter, you can divide it into small zones using stretch. A curtain is made and tightly attached from the sides and at the ceiling. From below it is pressed down with an ordinary stone. This method will allow you to heat the greenhouse only in those areas where it is really needed.
- Limit the use of the heater. It is better to use an electric fan to heat the greenhouse during the winter season. It will drive warm air over the entire area more evenly, unlike a conventional heater. Its only drawback is that it requires electricity. If one is not available, you can use an autonomous heater, but the correct location is important for it. When close to plants, they can rot.
- Thermostat. This option also requires certain conditions, but such a thing will help maintain comfortable conditions for seedlings. It is enough to set the required temperature, and if it falls, the heating will turn on to raise it to the required values. Disconnection will also occur automatically.
- Optimal warmth. Plants grown in winter do not require a lot of heat. + 10ºC is enough for them. It is enough to put a thermometer and check its readings from time to time. Now on the market there are electronic thermometers that transmit the temperature of the greenhouse to the computer screen. By monitoring this indicator, you can significantly reduce electricity consumption.
- Geotextile. If you cover the plants with this material every night, you will not need to turn on the heaters. It retains heat very well. The main thing here is not to forget to take it off in the morning, because the beds can rot.
- Heated propagator. The propagator is a miniature greenhouse designed for growing seedlings. This is a profitable investment. It will help you save a good amount on heating. Available from shops specializing in gardening.
Keeping warm in an unheated greenhouse
Here the task is more difficult, but doable. Stretch is also used as the main material. The following is important:
- Tightness. This is the first thing to pay attention to. Any material can crack. Store greenhouses are airtight enough, but it is better to double-check the joints, windows, etc. Even if all is well, these places should be insulated with a sealant. It is better to dig the lower part with earth, avoiding cracks, because it is they who can destroy all plants.
- You can heat the greenhouse not only with heaters, but also with ordinary water. It will take several 1.5 liter bottles that are filled with hot water. They are laid out along the beds. This is enough for 3 hours (depending on how cold it is).
- Using candles. The method is controversial, but effective. The main thing is to check them from time to time, and it is better to extinguish them at night. The heat received during the day from this method will be enough for the night. It is important not to place candles very close to plants.
A winter greenhouse is not such an expensive pleasure. There are ways to significantly reduce heating costs. Do not forget that there is little light in winter, but plants need it. Therefore, it is important to take care not only of warmth, but also of lighting.
