Is it possible to transplant roses

A rose is considered a plant that is demanding to care for, so many growers believe that it is better not to subject this capricious beauty to the transplant procedure. Despite the fact that after transplanting the plants get sick for some time, relocation to a new place is useful the fact that the soil is completely renewed, and the root system receives an incentive to build new adventitious roots.

The key to a successful transplant is the right time for this procedure. Roses are best replanted in early spring or early fall. Late autumn transplanting can lead to the death of the bush. It is difficult for an immature plant to endure winter cataclysms.

There are emergencies when you need to transplant an adult rose in the summer. In this case, you need to choose a period with stable cloudy weather. It is recommended to prune the bush before transplanting. The oldest shoots and those that have formed in the current year should be completely removed. The remaining branches are shortened to 40-50 cm. If the rose bloomed at that moment, then it is imperative to remove all flowers and buds from it, so that after moving, it wasted energy not on flowering, but on updating the root system.

Rules for transplanting adult rose bushes

When choosing a new location, it is recommended to take into account the ecological requirements of the plant. Growing conditions should not be drastically changed. First of all, you need to remember that roses cannot stand drafts. Therefore, they must be planted in a sunny area protected from the wind.

This plant does not like stagnant moisture, therefore, if the groundwater level in the area is high, then a drainage layer should be prepared at the bottom of the pit.

The landing pit must be prepared in advance. Its dimensions should correspond to the perimeter of the bush, but be at least 50 * 50 * 50 cm. The drain is covered with a nutritious soil mixture consisting of sand, compost or humus and garden soil in equal parts. You need to wait some time for the soil to settle in the hole.

Before digging out the bush, the soil under it is watered. This is necessary so that the plant is saturated with moisture, and the soil does not crumble from the roots when digging. So that the shoots do not interfere with the work, they are pulled together and wrapped several times with a dense rope. Around the bush, mark a square equal to the size of the planting pit.

First, a trench is dug around the perimeter of the square with a depth of 1-1.5 shovel bayonets. After that, an earthen lump around the bush is fixed with dense material so that it does not crumble, and then they continue to dig under the bush. The roots that go into the depth should be carefully chopped off with a shovel blade, the cuts should be treated with wood ash or coal.

The bush, together with the earthen lump, is carefully removed from the pit and placed on a piece of cloth placed in a garden cart. The rose is transported to a new location, removed from the cart with the material and placed in the planting pit. The fabric is carefully removed, the pit is covered with soil mixture. The earth is tamped, and 1.5-2 buckets of warm settled water are poured under the bush. Thus, all bush roses are transplanted.

Transplanting climbing and climbing roses

Transplanting climbing and climbing roses has some features. According to the size of flowers and the power of the shoots, they are divided into groups of ramblers and claimings.

In ramblers, the whips are thinner, and the flowers are small. Before transplanting, their lashes must be carefully freed from the supports and untangled. Shoots of the first and second years of life are left on the bushes, the rest are cut out completely. The tops of the remaining lashes are pinched.

Climing shoots are more powerful and tough. They are shortened by almost half, otherwise they may break during transportation. In both cases, the shoots are wrapped in a dense cloth in several layers. The further procedure for moving the rose bush is carried out similarly to the technology of transplanting bush roses.

If the rose needs to be moved a long distance, then the earthen ball should be wrapped with a damp cloth and fixed in a box or container.
