Tomatoes are planted outdoors using seedlings that need to be prepared in early spring. It is necessary to calculate the sowing time, process and disinfect the seeds, prepare the soil composition for the seedlings. After the seeds have grown, it is required to cut the plants before placing them in the ground.

Seedling growing rules

We grow tomato seedlings after selecting suitable planting material. It is necessary to determine the sowing time of the seeds, which depends on the variety of vegetable crop.

Tomatoes ripen at different times and are subdivided into the following subspecies:

  • early maturing - 90-100 days;
  • mid-season - 110-120 days;
  • late ripening - ripen in 135-140 days.

Taking into account the data, the period of sowing seeds for seedlings is calculated. To obtain a harvest from early ripening varieties of tomatoes by July 15, it is necessary to place the seeds in 100 days. Several days are added to the time interval for seed germination and 3-5 days for the adaptation of seedlings after moving into open soil. The optimal landing time is March 25-26. You can use the recommendations of gardeners on the timing of sowing different crops, which are indicated in special calendars.

At the next stage, the planting material is processed. It is required to disinfect the seeds to prevent diseases. The seeds are wrapped in gauze and immersed in a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate for 20-30 minutes. The solution is prepared from 2.5 g of substance and water (1 tbsp. l.). Then the grains are rinsed and dried on a towel.

Seeds can be germinated to speed up sprouting. It is required to put the seeds on a damp cloth or plate and cover with material. The dishes are placed in a warm place. The cloth needs to be moistened to prevent the seeds from drying out.

After 3-5 days, the hatched seeds are selected for planting work. You need to purchase a universal soil mixture for vegetable seedlings or prepare the composition yourself. The land from the site is brought into the room for 3-5 days for warming up. Then the soil is watered with a solution of potassium permanganate and infused for 1-2 days. The soil is mixed with the purchased substrate in a 1: 1 ratio and containers are filled with it.

Landing and diving rules

For planting seedlings, you need to select containers (boxes or individual pots). Plastic cups are a budget option. The advantage of individual pots is ease of planting, but planting seedlings in boxes will save space. Subsequently, you will need to dive the seedlings before planting in a greenhouse or open soil.

When planting seedlings in separate pots, it is required to make holes for water in the bottom of the containers. Drainage material is poured on the bottom. You can use expanded clay, small stones, egg shells. A layer of soil is placed on top and watered with water at room temperature.

Depressions are made in the soil up to 1-2 cm and 2-3 tomato seeds are placed. Crops are sprayed from a spray bottle. The pots are placed in a warm room. Before emergence, plantings are sprayed from a spray bottle.

When planting seed in common tubs, boxes of medium depth are selected. The containers are filled with soil and watered. Rows are made with an interval of 4 cm. After 2 cm, seeds are laid out. The seeds are pressed into the ground by 1 cm with a wooden stick and sprinkled with soil. The containers are closed with a film or lid and placed near the battery until the seedlings germinate. The container is placed in a lighted place with a temperature not exceeding + 18 ° C. Seedlings need a day of light at least 12 hours. In cloudy weather, highlighting of plants will be required. Top dressing of seedlings is not required, only moderate watering and spraying of leaves is needed.

At the next stage, the seedlings are thinned out and dived. Seedlings with soil are transferred to separate pots and buried roots. A mineral fertilizer can be added to the ground in a ratio of 1 tbsp. l. substances per 5 liters of soil mixture. After rooting, the seedlings are fertilized 2 times before planting in open soil.
